To quote the Slayer (that's what he's called)...

I am unassailable!

You don't need to kill him (and you technically shouldn't), so just leave the room without him, since he doesn't count as a monster.

Well, if you had the very early version of the game, you could have killed the Slayer in that room. Alas, that can't happen! He is unassailable (Except of course, at the end of the game)!

Whagga harqafnort???!! <ahem> "Technically shouldn't??" Does this mean that I shouldn't have smote the bahstahd most fatally when...

Him? I SHOULDN'T have killed that pesky slimeball???

I DID notice that my game movecount and killcount both reset to 0 (zero) when he died. I, um, assumed that was a bonus. <cough>

So what now? Did I hose the game? Should I restore to that room and let him live? <grr> Or do I need to wipe and restart the whole game? <GRRR>

On the off chance that I really, really shouldn't have killed him... then, as an old programmer my own self, I protest in the general direction of the game programmer(s) for not preventing the Slayer's death. Sorry guy(s) but that's pretty sloppy. :cool

In other news, I like JtRH eversomuchly!! Damn near Good Work, folks! :thumbsup

Oh man...if you only knew how many Slayer kills that were found, that Mike fixed, then more were found, etc., etc. Obviously not every single one could be found...for example, it's very easy to kill the Slayer with certain items, but he's usually too smart to show up in a room with them...or if you do use them to kill him, then you can't solve the room. That's the way JtRH was designed...of course, anyone can make their own hold full of Slayers to kill, just for the fun of it.

Congrats on that one, maybe by the next patch Mike will have fixed it. ;)

Game on,

I doubt it, since this kill was one of the known ones (and I think it was decided that there won't be anything done about it).

So what's the take on whether or not I need to restore to before I iced the Slayer the first time? (I did note that he pops up again, post-mortem, on L8. Undead? And he's still zapping my movecount and killcount.)

Killing the Slayer won't break the game in any way. In fact, if you know the entire backstory, there could be an explanation for it anyway. Obviously we tried our best to avoid it, because we wanted this one Slayer to be the only one...but as he says on level 3, he's the 39th Slayer...so does that mean he's the 39th in succession, the 39th at the present time, or even something different than that? The possibilities are endless. However, it does make a better story for there to be one big bad guy, which is why we tried to avoid Slayer kills, just as they tried to avoid Neather kills in KDD (which was not always possible, as we know).

Game on,

What is the slayer's pattern? What I noticed just from this room is that he tends to only follow you if you step on one of those white things, but then he only seems to follow the white path formed....however, he's broken that pattern a few times and killed me...so what's the deal?

He will follow the white thing(the wisp). But if he can kill you that turn since you are right in front of his sword, he will kill you. Or if he can't stab you but he can step on you, he will and it kills you.

ah i see, so he is willing to go one step off the white thing but one step only if it results in your death?

Yeah. He might also go off the white thing if you are threatening him and for his saftey he moves.

Every time I leave, he floows me and I have no way to stop him from following me and killing me.

Any ideas here? Should I wait longer in case he decides to leave?

The Slayer's only purpose is to kill you. Your only option is to keep him from doing that.
