I enjoyed reading it until I realised that all the criticisms were pretty much run of the mill, and didn't vary a lot from article to article.

Hm? Honestly, I never really saw it as trolling. I was just making jokes. Whether they were funny or not, I dunno, but trolling was never intended.

A) They have no value

I skimmed through the archives until I found a review of a comic I'd read, i.e. Sluggy Freelance. His profanity-filled rant about the comic boiled down to:

1. The title didn't make sense.
2. The art was bad.
3. He couldn't just jump into the middle of a storyline.

None of these is a valid criticism (#2 could be, though really just saying "the art sucks" doesn't quite cut it). Couple that with the fact that the post was much, much longer than this one, and I think it's safe to say: not really very funny.

Compare this to The Comics Curmudgeon, who is funny.

Also on the same topic I'd like to share this link: a blog post about how the artwork of some popular webcomics can use a lot of improvement. This is not just flaming down webcomics. The author actually does have constructive criticism on artwork of some well known webcomics and I can only wholeheartedly agree with him.

I agreed with some of it. A good newspaper comic strip is one you can get the gist of from reading week of strips. Online ones you can be more flexible about this. But if you have to read the entire backstory just to know what the hell's going on, then it's not necessarily as good.

Indeed. I like his tone, it sounds not as though he is criticizing them because he thinks they are horrible, but as though he is seeking out things to improve, and pointing them out to the artist, except the artist hasn't read his musings....

This remembers me of my own 'history'... First I was in Romania. I had a wonderful education, every student was doing his best, it was hard, and, since I was in a quite good school I learned a *lot*(and was happy with it, and ready to work for it).

Then we moved to Germany. The educational system in Germany is like that teacher with the notebook(in the article I linked to). Add that to me hardly speaking the language, I ended up almost last in the whole class, even though I was doing my best(while for the rest other stuff like music and games were way more important) and was about 1 and a half years ahead in most classes. The Netherlands are even worse.

Sorry for the rant.

Can't agree with you more.

I've recently been to a highschool (=VWO) graduation ceremony. All the university goers are going to study either economics, management, medicine of psychology. Listening to them, I can feel that they are being discouraged by their teachers to do anything technical.

Dex, I can only suggest you not to do any technical stuff if you live in NL right now. It's not worth it.

I'm sure they can manage to get the school system a lot better, but unfortunately not before you finished school. There's been a lot of mismanagement around there due to non-investment from the government.

Oh, and homeschooling is officially illegal in NL, unless allowed by their own religion.
