I am unnerved that no-one has asked about this. It must
mean I'm not seeing something pretty obvious.

Maybe the magic of admitting my numptiness in public
like this will cause it to become obvious to me just
after I press "send".

I can see broadly speaking what I'm supposed to do here, but e.g. I don't even manage to survive the hole at the beginning of the second row so far. (There's a smaller hole later on that has me worried, should I ever make it that far, but we shall see.)

This is my last normal room on this level.

Yes, I have only just realised I can get one or more giants
further than I had imagined so shall now see what this
gets me.

I'm sorry to say that I'm having difficulty with this room as well. I can get the roach to the bottom level, by putting rock giants at 11,8; 23,9; 29,9; 32,16 and 17,24. but I still come up one short at 23,24. is there a way to free one up after you use it? if so, I'm not seeing it. any help would be appreciated.

I'm sorry, but I understand all the posts & replies, but, for the life of me, cannot work out how to open the doors without stepping on an adverse arrow.
HELP please. This is my last room of the Level.

I have come back to play DROD after many years absence and still find it absorbing!

You do have to step on the arrow. All the actual manipulation will be done with Gunthro in the bottom row. The puzzle is to work out how to get the monsters to let Gunthro out again.
