I've had a good time with this level, and am now in this final room. I've been at it for a while, and am willing to keep slogging, but I'm getting worried that solving it depends on some detail of brained monster movement that I've never come across. Specifically:

So... am I on the right track at all? Is there a secret about movement that I don't know? Thanks for any assistance or hints.

Sounds like you've almost worked out the solution.
It does rely on understanding movement behaviour, but nothing more secret than you've seen elsewhere in the level (e.g. the rooms down the left side of the level)

The question is - why did the eye move downwards one tile when you were with the snake in the central loop? Or, in other words, why did it become unbrained.

I stumbled my way through a solution, that I didn't think was going to work till it actually had. I belatedly figured out the reason why it worked, which is that

That actually does seem a bit more advanced than the route calculation in the west-side rooms, but maybe I am forgetting something. Anyway, I feel smarter now, so thank you!
