You probably won't be surprised to hear that there's been a lot of buzz about these job openings. In fact, we received applications from the following people:

The Interview
I want you to show me how you stand out from the rest of the crowd. That's why I've asked all applicants to perform the same task. I want you to come up with a list of nicknames - one nickname for each of our 30 job applicants, including yourself.

For the sake of the interview, you need not stick to the Empire’s naming standard of [ordinal + occupation]. Come up with any names you like! The best nicknames are the ones that have some connection to the person they refer to. It could be reimagining of their screenname, or it could refer to their avatar or signature, or even the content, voice, or style of their posts. It's up to you! Take it any way you want! Use puns! Make jokes! But please, try to keep it friendly, and keep it rated-PG. This is a NO DRAMA CONTEST. You hear me?


Submission/Timing
Applicants will have until roughly negative 789 weeks, 3 days from now to submit their list of nicknames to our submission topic. Please include all of your nicknames in one single list. Feel free to include explanations if you wish. (I'll provide a link after I bug the mods about getting the submission topic set up.)

Voting
After all lists are in or time has expired, I will reveal the lists. I'll create a poll wherein everybody will vote on their favorite sets of nicknames. Rather than do a rating poll (which I believe is slightly more prohibitive to voters), I think I'll mix things up and do a multiple selection poll. I’ll fill you in on exactly how I have that planned when we get to it. Also, the term "favorite" makes for deliberately ambiguous voting criteria. You get to decide which nicknames win for whatever dang reason you want!

The top three vote-getters will be our new hires! And don't worry - I will personally break ties with my majestic impartial radiating hammer of justice. Or a runoff.

Questions:

1) Will lists of nicknames be presented anonymously? And I don't mean 'by an unknown person who may or may not be RoboBob3000', I mean 'without submitters' names attached'.

2) It sounds like people will be choosing the winning list of nicknames rather than voting on individual nicknames. Is that right? (Logistically, it seems like any other way would be a nightmare, but I wanted to be sure...)

1. Nothing will be presented anonymously. I will reveal each applicant's list and optional explanations exactly as they posted in the submission topic.
2. We will not be voting on each individual nickname (since a poll done that way would require nearly 1000 evaluations from each voter).

I'm not greatly concerned about it myself. Given that your name will be associated with the list of nicknames you submit, I would expect that people will temper their more mean-spirited ideas.

Or possibly not, but in any case it should be interesting.

Yay! Submission topics!

And it should be noted this official contest thread has finally been promoted to "stickied" status. Shouldn't the contest coordinator (this month, it seems to be Robobob) have the ability to sticky the official contest topic and submission thread in the contest board? Or has a more long-time contest coordinator (like NiroZ) never had the ability to do that and had to ask for permission?

You know, I betcha NiroZ has all of those necessary powers, but since I'm just an ordinary Joe Blow here on the boards, I had to go through the back channels. Thanks to Schik for the assistance with the submission topic (and, presumably, the sticky as well).

Administrative note - Jatopian got lost in a crowd of citizens on the way to the office and has had to withdraw his application, so the list has shrunk to 30 names.

While I've got your attention, I've got a quick question. Schik tweaked a forum setting that allowed me to create submission topics, so I created one. However, I can't see any replies to it. I figure that either:

A) I can't see the actual submissions for a reason similar to why I couldn't create submission topics before, or
B) Nobody has submitted anything yet.

Could a different set of eyes confirm/deny this for me? Has anybody submitted anything yet?

I'm sorry I had to do it in a hurry because I've been terribly busy and this weekend I will be away.

I was about to withdraw my application. But out of respect for the rest of the applicants (it wouldn't be nice to do so two days before the deadline) I decided to make a fast list.

I did it in less than 20 minutes so it isn't any good, but anyways I had fun with some of them. :D
