Create a room with an Aumtlich (or similar beam-emitting monster).
Give the player some sort of weak sword.
Have the player take on some enemy with a high amount of defense but that can't hurt the player (say, a Wubba).
Attacking this enemy turns off the Aumtlich beam for the turn. Attempting to initiate combat again keeps the beams off, until the player takes another turn where this sort of situation doesn't occur. This can be exploited. If the player steps in the beam and attacks the Wubba on exactly the same turn, the beam will get turned off before it harms the player, and the beam can be crossed if the player moves before the beams come on in the next turn.
