Re: Links to custom graphics (+3)
NPC stands for Non Player Character, basically an entity with a series of commands that is not controlled by the player (usually you).
Here are some step-by-step instructions for making a custom avatar or tile for an entity.
1. For a tile, make the pixel size 22x22 (for every tile in-game) and start working. Other tile sizes can be used for entities larger than a singe tile, for example 22x44, 44x22, 44x44, 66x88, any multiple of 22. For an avatar, make the size 136x164 (something like that) and start working.
2. Save your finished work as a PNG or JPEG file.
3. Start Drod TCB.
4. Go into Build Levels and create a character in the room.
5. The scripting screen comes up. On the top-right hand of that screen, you should see a button called Characters.
6. A new screen comes up. In the top-left hand of that screen is a type-in box. Type in the name of the character and say "Add Character".
7. Once you have this character as one of your custom characters, move the next box to the right and select what original character you're going to base this custom guy on. Keep in mind that some characters have movement restrictions such as not moving over pits. To be able to move over pits, select the graphic as Wraithwing, as they are able to move over pits. Otherwise, just select one of the citizens for basic movement. Also, different characters have different avatars, as well has different color speech boxes when they say something.
8. Move to the next selection. You will be able to select the avatar and the tile that this custom character has. Follow the instructions given there to import your file into the Drod database.
9. Now that your custom character has been created, exit the Character Creation screen and select the new characters name from the list of characters just below the button that brings up the Character Creation screen.
10. THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE OF ALL! Check the box in the bottom right corner of the screen to make it say that the character is visible. This way, it's tiles will show up.
Do you understand what an NPC is and how to create a custom NPC?
