And the contest was ended. 29th Storage Manager snuck away from the forum with a few armfuls of artwork to stuff back into the cabinet before anyone noticed. The best ones had to be put at the top though, so he made a detour via the forum to get opinions of the art.

Please rate each entry out of 10. Supplemental information for some of the pieces is included below, but it's the art you're ranking, not the story behind it. The pieces themselves are attached to the subsequent message. Artists, you're allowed to vote your own piece 10.

Brian S - The Last Roach: A digital drawing, 5x5 inch at 72dpi, making 360x360 pixels

Calamarain - Rock Giant Sentry Post: Made in Bryce 6, with some clearing up using the GIMP. Ineligible to win a prize as I'm running this contest, but I thought I'd enter anyway.

eb0ny - If I Had a Brother Named Halph: Halph has many uses: he opens doors, can block stuff etc. In DROD he can be exploited in multitude of ways. Same goes for real life.

eb0ny - KDD Level 13 Original Plans: "On the left you can see the original plans for the thirteenth level of King Dugan's dungeon. Because it was discarded by the king himself as being too ugly, the open door panels, trapdoors and a pit were added to make it "more visually appealing". And it worked."

Jutt - Birth of a Slayer: Done with pencil on paper, this work depicts how a fully grown Slayer is pulled from his vat and how the hook is presented to him. "I was inspired for this work while reading through an article about the 39th Slayer on the official site. The article itself didn't provide much information on the exact process of growing slayers in vats, so most of what you see in the image is what my imagination made of it."

Pneh - Roach Hat: A papier-mâché created by Pneh and modelled by his little brother.

Rheb - Aumtlich Dungeon: According to Rheb, the best picture he's ever made in Paint.

Tahnan - Class Project: "Well, it...counts, right?". This is what happens when 29th Storage Manager tries to get others to do his work for him

Tahnan - Potato: A little romance.

Techant - Castle in Poister: We've seen Dugandy Castle, now here's one in Poister.

My own feedback on the entries:

The Last Roach: Nice one, gets the terror the roach must be feeling across well.

Rock Giant Sentry Post: I'm quite fond of how the water in this one turned out, it's got a lovely set of colours, but you can still see the pillars descending into it. Not so fond of the giants themselves, they're too... smooth.

If I Had A Brother Named Halph: If there was a DROD webcomic, this would be a strip in it. My second favourite out of all the entries

KDD Level 13 Original Plans: This was drawn by hand. So all I can say is that it must have taken a hell of a long time, and I'm impressed.

Birth of a Slayer: My favourite out of the lot. It's a good drawing, good choice of subject and well executed.

Roach Hat: The only entry who didn't draw something. Instead, he created the next big thing on the catwalk Can't you just see Claudia Schiffer waltzing down the road wearing one of these?

Aumtlich Dungeon: If Aumtlich beams are deflected up, does that mean that an unscrupulous architect could put bombs and fuses on the ceiling as a booby trap? If a Smitemaster comes into the room and starts blocking aumtlich beams, he'll collapse the roof on himself.

Class Project: I really like this one.

Potato: A www...

Castle in Poister: Do the Architects also get involved in building above-ground structures, or are they restricted to dungeons?

Here is my feedback:

Roach: It looks nicely but it dosen't impress me. 6/10
Rock Giant: Impressive, great, that's how Drod 3D should look like! 10/10
Halph Comic: Nice idea, but I don't like the drawing much. 6/10
Labyrinth: I like the reference to KDD and also like the optic of it. 8/10
Slayer Birth: Very detailed, nice shadows. 8/10
Roach Hat: That's not art but it's an original idea. 7/10
Aumtlich Dungeon: Paint drawing... meh. 6/10
Class Project: Not art but highly original. Great! 9/10
Potato: Lame. That mother looks soooo tired 5/10
Castle: Like Slayer Birth but not that nicely drawn. 7/10

I agree. Although Calamarins entry is also very neat.

Jutt's entry also has a lot of misery feeling to it (in a good way).

Well I look at it as a spy mission, that is why it is the back. the Architects wanted to know the above ground layout to solve some below ground issues.

The Last Roach: The sword is nicely done with the blood and shadows. But the picture lacks a certain touch of reality.

Rock Giant Sentry Post: Nice! By far the best entry in this contest. Everythings great!

If I Had A Brother Named Halph: This isn't really art, but I like the way it's been drawn.

KDD Level 13 Original Plans: Nice in many ways: highly detailed and a pretty cool idea.

Birth Of A Slayer: Best of the handdrawn. The shadows and many things else are plain wonderful.

Roach Hat: Oh my god! This is the best thing I have ever seen! It is perfect in every way! I will never take this unique piece of headwear of my head! I'm sure that this has a value of over $50000!

Aumtlich Dungeon: You've really made it a 3D picture and this is unusually nice to be made in paint.

Class Project: Funny, but not really art. It would be fun to try out this in my art class sometime.

Potato: I must say that this is the worst in contest. Sorry Tahnan...

Castle In Poister: Very nice! Nothing more to say really...

Why just archive it? Let people submit more. I understand, that we have a "Look! Art!" thread, but it would be good if it were made more... explicit (creating userart page in drod.net, for example).

1st Place: Jutt - Birth of a Slayer. A wonderful pencil-drawn piece showing a slayer emerging from the tank for the very first time

2nd Place: eb0ny - King Dugan's Dungeon Original Level 13 plans. A highly detailed piece, showing the entirety of the Level 13 maze, drawn on multiple sheets of paper in isometric projection.

3rd Place: Techant - Castle in Poister: A rendering of one of the many castles in the Eighth.

Mine would have been in the top 3 as well, but as the runner of the contest, I'm obviously ineligible to win.

Unfortunately, the trophies themselves aren't available (due to a terrible mixup involving 199th Courier and her husband, we'd really rather not talk about it, the memories are too fresh), so you'll just have to have the rank points instead. 100 for Jutt (and a prize from the pile), 50 for eb0ny and 25 for Techant.
