The game you see is playing right now isn't a real one. I ran it for 80 turns or so without any input into it. You're welcome to try to survive in it.

I'm awaiting a new time and player list from Someone Else. And maybe a new arena is the player count is different.

It seemed like some players didn't stand a chance of ever getting started. #4 and #6 seem to have a starting disadvantage.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I've played 1 or 2 rogue-likes, and in them walls are #. I guess I just thought that it would be the same when I saw # and ^. Shall we try again next week, at the same time?

What about this? lots of obstacles, a few walls and not much open tiles. I've done it in the hold that is included. water are obsatcles and walls are.. well, walls.

Sorry I've been away from this topic since my initial post. I would like to play again, I just need to remember to check to see what gets set up!

I'd be happy to join a game with fairly long turn increments, as I am without internet access during the workweek daytime. Either that or one some evening West Coast US time?

Sounds good to me and I will plan for it. Please send me an updated arena and player list when it firms up. Because of some things I'm doing that weekend, I'd like to get these by Friday so I can set them up at home in preparation.

Okay, I restarted the game for Techant's challenge. I am going to request that nobody enter moves for their snakes in this non-interactive contest. Here you should just try to predict the winning snake. It won't necessarily be the same as the last game, because no moves will be set.

So if you read this within a few hours of when I post, take a look at the snake pit at the URL below, and post your prediction. Hmmm. Best to use a new topic for that, I think.

I am not making any rules concerning predictions. Just have fun or figure out your own rules, I guess. And remember NOT to enter any snake movements or you will spoil it for everyone. And you don't want to confuse this mini-contest with the real one coming up this weekend.

Ooops, we blew by the contest deadline again. Here's an e-mail I sent Someone Else that explains:
Sam, I'm sorry, but I just did not have enough time to respond to this. I really do appreciate that you are putting the effort into this--I really do. But I received this e-mail about an hour before your deadline. I'm doing other things like phone calls, meetings, and grabbing lunch. By the time I had a moment to read your e-mail, it was already 2 hours past the contest start time.

You did say well in advance when the contest time was, so I can see how this misunderstanding would come up. Let me explain the process a tiny bit more...

It takes me about a half hour to put in a new arena and new players. Then it is set up and ready to go. At that point, I only have to "push a button" to start the game. I just need to find a spare half hour before the contest to set it up. And that's where the notice comes in. If you send me the arena and participants enough in advance (like 24 hours), then I can get it set up in time.

My suggestion is to see if you can get participants for the same time tomorrow. Most of them will probably be able to make it. Anyone that can't, maybe you can find a quick replacement.

I'm going to post a copy of this response on the forum so people know what is up. Feel free to reply back either in e-mail or on the forum--whichever suits you.
