Level 10 is just annoying. Is this the "tar maze" I briefly read about in some other posts?

Level 8 seems fun now. And I really thought Level 9 wasn't very difficult.

The problem is with the basic design... it's not difficult by any stretch, it's just TEDIOUS.

And the "tar maze" is not in Dugan's Dungeon. Don't worry.

Yea, I meant 11... Silly me.

Finally finished it off this evening. Tedious is the only word. Especially that room where you have to jump through all the hoops again to get to the exit room if you didn't save that for last.

Hopefully Level 12 will be more entertaining.

I'm not sure what the point you're making here is - in particular why you need to reply to a post written 4 years ago to tell them to "shut up".

I think the point DiMono was making was not that you shouldn't look at old posts. Fine you're playing the old DROD in 2008, so you're looking at old posts. Good luck to you, no-one's going to stop you.

The point he was making was that there was no reason to resurrect old posts, bringing them to the top of the thread so people will read them (and wasting their time) if you've got nothing new to say, or anything new to ask.

Which is kinda like what you just did.

i agree with you there, but this isn't the best example.

ive seen him telling people who are continuing to give advice on a room to stop resurrecting old posts

which just doesn't make any sense.

Nobody thinks there is anything wrong with reading old posts.

People are objecting to the fact that kjholt posted to tell DiMono to "shut up already". A quick forum search reveals that DiMono's most recent post in Hints and Solutions was this one from March 19, 2005. DiMono rarely visits this forum anymore, he no longer reads the Hints and Solutions board, and he has "shut up already" for more than 3 years!

Other objectionable features in kjholt's post include:
* It is abusive.
* It uses a poor choice of language.
* It is not useful to people who need help on the Tenth Level of King Dugan's Dungeon.
* Additionally, many of us find it annoying to read posts from people who can't be bothered to use correct punctuation and capitalization.

Upon reevaluation of my post, I reflect on my thought process while posting it:

I shouldn't use swear words, so I will shorten them.
I am using punctuation like "I'll" instead of "ill" for the first half, then just being angry and letting speed of typing take hold rather than grammar.
I am not going to look up exactly when DiMono posted last.

Look, the thing is, I am fairly new to this *cough* and I didn't even know that posting on it would bring it to the top of the forum. I thought DiMono had gone through and seen the posts, then chided them.

I didn't mean to abuse, or waste anyone's space.

Also, I was on level 10 when I used this very thread to aid me.

And if you're going to say I'm too dumb to synthesize a coherently structured sentence, please don't. I'm a college student who may major in English (at the U of Michigan). But one thing I'm not is a student who feels proper capitalization in online forums is necessary. In some arenas, it comes off as arrogance, as I'm sure it is right now.

Well, DiMono's concern about bumping threads(and others concern aobut that) makes sense. Why should people bump threads by continuing giving advices while there's nobody who posted to ask a help in a year or seven(or more) months? There're always a lot of people who're really needing help, and bumping topics(even by postingh tips and hints) where nobody asks for help gets topics where people really need help lower and lower. Sometimes those people even need to bump their own topics because nobody noticed this topic and didn't give help. It's not good, is it?

Uh... I don't think anyone is going to care much whether you capitalize property or not, at least not in a language like English where capitalization is hardly ever used anyway. (Now German might be another matter, but even in all German forums I frequent there's hardly any flaming going on about that topic...)

But the first impression you made with your initial post up there is going to leave a lasting impression on everyone - maybe just think about it a little more before even writing such an outburst, and maybe just type it and don't send it.

That's not even specific to this forum, it's basic forum etiquette...

What is specific to this board (i.e. "Hints & Solutions"), though, is that it's expected that people only post when they need help or are providing hints that someone asked for *recently*, as opposed to posting because they just solved a room they thought was hard. And, I admit, this isn't in the "Posting Rules" sticky at the top where it probably should be...

(When I read this thread at 2:40 am last night my first impulse was to lock this thread since it obviously has run it's course as far as hints for level 10 are concerned, but since it was that late I refrained from doing it while being half-asleep at the keyboard and due to the discussion that followed I won't do it at all...)

I'm a college graduate who majored in psychology and minored in English. I'm not inordinately concerned with the usage of proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation on the forums, but I wouldn't be going out on a limb to affirm that swearing (even as you've modified it) is indisputably unnecessary.
As one who has, on occasion, ranted about various matters (and later always come to regret having done so), I've found that a humble apology is invariably a good first step.
Welcome to the forums...I sincerely hope you stick around.
