Fun for fans of SI units . . . for example, while it is accurate to write:

1000 millivolts = 1 volt

it is both less accurate and more amusing to note that:

10^12 microphones = 1 megaphone
500,000 bicycles = 1 megacycle
1 decimate = 0.1 mate
10 millipedes = 1 centipede
1/2 washroom = 1 demijohn
10^21 piccolos = 1 gigolo (OK, so it's not spelled exactly right)
5 dialogues = 10 monologues
2 wharves = 1 paradox
1 milli-Helen-of-Troy = amount of face that can launch one ship

What else can be added to this list?

[Last edited by key-smiter at 08-15-2006 07:00 PM : Corrected the bicycle equation. The original assumed bicycles have 20 wheels each.]

1 bel = 10 decibel.
(Beauty should be seen, not heard.)

1 exam = 5 * 10^17 dim.
(This explains why people aren't at their brightest during exams.)

1 decay = 10^16 femtoy.
(femtoy, n.: See fembot.)

Also see this :)

1 milliHelen = the amount of beauty required to launch just one ship, i.e. 1/1000 of a Helen. ;)

Taken from Science Made Stupid by Tom Weller.

Game on,

it's not particularly accurate, either. it should be more like "5 prices = 1 pentecost". the "joke" involves adding prefixes, not usually replacing prefixes, unless the "dropped" prefix is considered numerical (which "holo-" is not).

obligatory submission:

3 starwars prequels = 1 megaflop.
