I hate goblins at the best of times, but this room has me stumped. Here's where I'm at so far:

Beyond that I'm having trouble; I can't work out how to deal with those leftover goblins. Any suggestions on how to take one out?

I know the trick and have cleared every room so far, I also know that the south end is needed to get to the "safe area" However, I have no idea how to get past the goblins to the south exit.

I just checked my demo and it is perfectly possible to solve from the north entrance. The strategy is almost identical.

So, you cannot go from the north exit to the south one? I've found Easy or Hard: 1W to be fairly instructive regarding movement while surrounded by goblins, with a scroll explaining the odd behaviour of goblins.

Hmm, I never tried from the north. In any case, I *think* you need to use that manoeuver if you want to beat the room, or something close to it.

Doesn't work. One goblin always get stuck by the entrance, and with goblins behind me I have no chance. Also, I understand goblin behavior perfectly. I have read the source code, and could tell you the movement pattern of any creature.

Got it. Must have been something weird. Oh well. Now I still have this room plus 2 others. 7S and the one with the mimics and the trapdoor. What does the trick do for that room anyway?

OK, gotta do it . . . I've been trying to get through this room for four months now. I've tried entering both directions, I've tried the hints ("stay near the top of the shelter", etc.) and I'm still not getting it. Once I get to the shelter, it provides no protection from the three or four goblins in my wake and I last a maximum of 3 - 4 moves. This is the last room I've got to complete in this hold . . .

So that I may close out this sordid chapter in my life, can some kind soul provide a demo?

Hmmm I don't know what to say. I was able to download the demo, import it, and watch it in version 2.0.12 (the same version on which the demo was made). Maybe there's a bug.

The way I did it was to enter from the top. Stay right where you are until you only have three or four goblins. It may not be elegant, but just swinging your sword randomly will work to reduce the horde. Then you can head for the shelter or kill them where you are at; when you are down to two you can drive them downwards. Personally, I've never really found much use for the shelter.

Anyway, I've also attached a demo. It's more polished than what I described, but it'll give you the general idea. If you can't watch this one, you should report the problem to the bugs board.

Ah. This hold, on my system, remains in "traditional DROD" since it turned out to be non-importable into JtRH. I'd guess that demos built in JtRH are not playable in ancestral, KDD DROD, so no reason for a bug report.

So. I can generally get down to four, sometimes three, goblins. (Or, like right now, I'm stuck with 14 that don't move away or into sword range, must restart.) I can then go northeast to the shelter. My problem, whether I go north or south of the shelter, is that the goblins leak around both ends. . . .
{Edit: Well, ain't that somethin'. I whine enough, and I finally got it done. Sorry for the public display of ignorance - on to the next set of challenges.}
