I didn't realize that they needed a city/town. Do they act as Thinkers and can they be Squadron leaders? That is, if I assign them to another town can I place units there? It said-

So I thought they only affected one town. Do we have to attach it to certain towns when it ready and only those get the double or does it affect every active town?

So the Goblin upgrade still only affects the town with a Goblin in it?

I thought my idea would ruffle up some feathers but not to worry I really don't know how to play this game.

I have played Risk but never any RPG's except puzzle pirates which I learned about on this forum, and which is nothing like this kind of game. I try to avoid games with this much complexity as I always feel sure to fail but I wanted to give this a try because it was based on DROD. :yes and after all The spitemaster was brave enough to try and run it. :thumbsup

Fang's layout made me think of another question I had. I assigned my Rock Golums and then assumed I had to pay upkeep that day on them. Can you assign units and pay the Upkeep the next day or not even that week, if you do not need to attack anyone.

Now what if you are attacked and you didn't pay Upkeep. I didn't attack anyone but I had Upkeep for my units in my calculations. I am very confused. Please help. :blush

I've edited my original "moves" post.

By getting rid of the rock golem and giant, I avoided spending 212 greckles, leaving me with 40 greckles (and not bankrupt).

(I have to admit that this whole "paying upkeep the first day you buy something" is going to make this game a lot slower)

Just noticed in .xls that my income shows as 5000. I calculated 12*500=6000 am I counting something wrong? My remaining should be 1785 by my numbers.

Chaco, don't worry about the slowness. The double bonus from makes a more will cover all of that.

If I had known that I was attacked on day 2 I would have activated those other 2 towns I thought I had activated on day 1. They were the last two on the list. I listed 11 but said it was 9. :?

I guess those of us with battle wounds will have to make adjustments for the results of day 2 that affect day 3. I would guess I lost Lantern Waste on day 2 so I can't place anyone there on day 3. So instead I active Narrowhaven and Azim Baldaof and I am placing those units and thinker that was to be place in Lantern Waste in Narrowhaven.

Maurog you may need to change your day 3 as well. I don't think there was anything left of Lantern Waste for you to attack. Chaco attacked it as well so I don't know if the right thing to do is to have you pick a different empty town or just cancel your attack. (Remember, you would not have known I was activating these last two towns so you would not have picked them.) Your attack on Tehishbaan doesn't need to change though. (Are we having fun yet, :cool )

Added later after reading all our simtanous postings (I don't think we could do it again if we tried):
Doubling up the days is really confusing.Yikes! :fun I will go with the offical decisions but I am so confused, whats new. :lol

For those who would like a synopsis:
Days two and three bring much destruction, as techant's mighty cities stand proud against the forces of Maurog, Chaco, Someone Else, and The spitemaster. Tehisbaan was razed to the ground by Maurog's roach army, and then completely wiped off the map by someone else's forces, leaving it more thoroughly destroyed than it was built in the first place. However, Lantern Waste was valiantly defended by a mixed squadron of Wraithwings, Wubblades, and Rock Giants. In other news, Fang, Eb0ny, RuAdam, and Hyperme seem to be fighting a very defensive war, none of their forces having been seen outside their city walls.

Attached is a simple calculator that I made to easily keep track of how much money you have. It should be straightforward, but only write in the cells bordered by unbroken lines, and your results will be in the boxes with dashed lines.

Whoa, it seems I somehow didn't realise that we have to post for two days. If it's not too big of a problem I'd like to post this for day 3:

Spare cash on day start: 360
I buy a Negotiator -250
I get income +500
I pay for upkeeps
10 roach -20
2 resercher -100
1 negotiator -100
My reserchers are continuing research -20
My negotiator starts negotiating for a guard -30

Spare cash left: 340

Also Would this mean my guard is ready on day 4 or on day 5?

It seems that contrary to what I thought, negotiators can negotiate for several thinkers at once. This is a bit frustrating, since I asked it twice and nobody answered, leading me to assume it's impossible.

Had I known it's possible my whole startegy would be completely different.

One more thing, do you pay the upkeep every day or only during the income days? The original rules say it is the second one, so I play according to it. If it is not, will you let me go into negative for a few turns? I will be getting income, so as long as it holds, I should be okay... right?
