Really good artworks you got in there, I really like how you guys are able to express you style and personality through the artworks that were posted, it really tell a lot about the artist. I am looking forward to post my own work although its not yet done, still needs some finishing touches, hope you all appreciate it too. keep up the good work guys!

Many of you will know by now that I retired at the end of June. I think I have not mentioned on this site that I was given a long service award by the council - a sum of money to spend on an item (or two) of my choice. To cut a long story short, I bought a weaving loom. There was a leaflet on the very basics which came with the loom and I bought a couple of books from Amazon and devoured them! I have to say I have become very quickly addicted to this craft and my hope is that I will become good enough to be able to sell what I make, which means that I will be able to justify buying really classy yarns - cashmere and silk and so on. I may pop in here from time to time with pics of items and I will definitely take a pic of the loom (it's in Raasay at the moment) and post it, but here for starters is a sampler I made to try out different techniques:



(I also wove the rainbow scarf and the purple-y one in the background.)

So, my creative hobbies cycle, and my fine art supplies have been gathering dust for quite a while. But this spring, an idea for a piece started very gently nagging at me until I couldn't ignore it anymore. Sadly, it decided it wanted to be something more ambitious than my usual style (anyone who's interested what that means can hit me up in chat for a link to a couple of my critter sketches), and way back when I sort of skipped over the usual training pieces one's supposed to do. So back to self-taught school for a while to do all the still lifes and pencil studies I've avoided until now, with a concentration on the hard stuff (shiny/reflective things, water, fire, etc. Sorry, Dis, really don't wanna do a bowl of fruit. )

To that end, snapped a pic of the piece of perpetual jewelry that I wear, and have for the past couple of weeks been working a closeup of the ring, and a couple of links of the chain that connects it to the rest of the piece. (And taken a couple hundred more pics of various items and scenery. ) This is how the first one turned out.

Have now started a study of the rest of the piece (of jewelry partially pictured above). I'm about a third of the way done, I think, and thought there might be one or two of you who'd find the partial to be vaguely interesting. You can see the guidelines for the portions of the drawing that aren't done, and for the most part, these don't get erased but are just absorbed into the final work. (The only exception to that is when they are directly in the way of a highlight area.)

Oh, and for those who might care about such things: both works are graphite (HB only) on standard 50 lb sketchbook paper.
