On my return trip through this room after talking to the big guy at the desk I have the assistant following me but when I go down to exit to the next rpoom he is not behind me. I go back up and there he is standing the middle of the big room on the right. I had him go up and drop the barrier again, broughtr him back down, got him to follow me again but when I went in the next room down same thing. Go back up and he is in the middle of the big room on the right again. Can somebody please tell me what I am supposed to do? Do I leave him behind or not and just go on playing the rest of the game?

Don't worry about it, just go down to the next level and Halph will follow.

The thing here is that Halph interprets "following Beethro" as "being in the same level" when Beethro hasn't told him to follow him. In other words, Halph figures Beethro doesn't need him anymore when he leaves the room.

The assistant (Halph) pretty much has a mind of his own. He appears on a room-by-room basis, and if he doesn't appear, you don't need to worry about it.
