And now it's official: TripleM is dead, Tyrion and myself can head on safely into the middle area.

And thus ends the saga of the top-left corner, or at least the interesting part of it. Everything else is just serpents harmlessly coiling (and one progressing haplessly to its death). At least if no-one does anything unexpected.

Lucky dog. Er, snake. My idly-considered decision to jump back down into the outer loop those many turns ago is still haunting me; on my next turn, I'd be on the way towards that little dead-end to my west if not for the fact that I'll move first. And as it is...I have no idea what's going to happen next.

Oh, even if you had moved later, than bjflatjeff would have stopped you from reaching the dead-end.

As it is, I think you and everyone else down there is relatively safe for the time being. You might not make it into the center for a while, but I don't see any immediate death-threats.

Yup. I couldn't see anything that I could do that would get me into the center, so I happened to choose the one route that would kill me as soon as possible. Clever, that.
(Can't wait for the rematch, though :D)

Hmm... It will be interesting to see if Timo006's time in the center of the arena consists of running into that center block, then after a delay, running right back out and to another side subarena. I think it might be possible that nobody gets their snakes into a position to allow Timo006's to get off of those center lines.

That's assuming that Timo006 doesn't make some bad decisions and suicide inside that block, of course.

There is someone who can't help but get in Timo006's way, assuming Timo006 makes the right choice.

A feature request:

It would be nice if the Snakes page made it possible to list dead snakes in the order in which they died.

With five snakes dead (and I think two more pending), I'm already forgetting the precise order in which they died. This may not matter right now (not much difference between 39th and 40th place), but it could matter more the fewer snakes we got.

For the record, I am pretty sure the order of death was this:

Banjooie
McFrugal
Niccus
Tim
Ezlo

I'm not surprised that snakes have been slow to drop off - the board is quite expansive and there's a lot of room for people to play safe in. Some areas are crowded enough right now that we might see several more snakes deaths before too long, but I think most snakes will survive until pretty late in the game, and then, as the board gets filled in, a lot of deaths will happen quickly.

Here's an interesting thing to think about:

There are 56 entrance spaces into the central arena.

Six of them have been used.

At least one has been rendered unusable. (There's a second one which isn't technically unusable, but I think it would be awfully hard to use it. We'll count it as open for now.)

So, room for 49 more entries into (or exits from) the central arena. With 31 snakes out, 6 in.

What does it all mean? I have no idea...

I think it means anyone who is either already in or about to be should be looking for ways to seal entrances. Especially if they can seal all from a particualar area :lol

Question for the other players: I'm leaving on Friday for a couple of weeks in New Zealand, and I won't have Internet access while I'm gone. Assuming for a second that my powers of precognition are less than perfect, I figure I have two main choices:

1) Leave my snake with an empty move queue (ie always bump).

2) Leave my snake with a random move queue long enough to last until I either get back or die.

What would people prefer? A predictable snake, or a random agent?

Of course, if by some freak accident I haven't died before I get back, I'll be playing to win again. :)

Well, the unpredictable sort has it easier to die but may cause more deaths, as the bump sort it is less probable to die but much easier that they don't die either, I'm dead because of the holiday I had to Germany, and as you I didn't have acces to Internet, putted a random order, left, and as I came back the second snakepit had started, so generally, I didn't even have a chance to play :~( , but well, it's your choice (I prefer unpredictable, will be more fun to see what happens and if you cause deaths)

With the bump, you'll never leave the sub-arena you're in, since it's either boxed- or snaked- off. I say you submit twenty or so jumps so you'll at least get to a new area.

I've been on holiday since the game started, have just found an Internet cafe to check on progress, and was amazed to see I'm still alive! I entered a semi-random string something like BBBBJBBBBJBBBBJ before leaving (the Friday the game started) and it seems to have worked OK so far.

Now that I've had a chance to save a string of thought-out commands no doubt things will take a turn for the worse.

Woohoo! Both of the things I wanted to happen happened! I will not be travelling to the SE corner now, baby. Yeehaw!

Note: If jolima hadn't jumped, my jump into the arena would have been blocked because techant's head would have been blocking my path because of the bump. Either way, I don't have to go into that heckhole.

Also, after three days or so of slithering, you can get into the center arena too, hopefully before it fills up! How about that? :)

So... Stephen4Louise could force me to die by jumping at the next possibility. AND end up at the southern area that's being filled already by 4 other snakes.

OR he could continue up, let me continue, and end up in the much, much safer western area of the outer ring with only one other snake...

I'm not sure. Let's hope he isn't playing Beethro's Teacher right now, or he might have incentive to kill you :)

I've got my plan planned out. If it works, I may single-handedly shorten the game by a couple of days.
