Nobody seems to have disabused the forum of the rumors of Niccus's death. It hinges on the fact that Niccus moves just before NiroZ. Neither of them is likely to die very soon.

Yeah, I doubt people are going to help me. This all came from that one bump the comptuer forgot about! A haven't had an actual choice since then. Stupid server. ;) I don't care really, I didn't particularly like this contest anyway. Way too random.

I can't see why movement order would help save Niccus. Sure, Niccus moves first, but NiroZ's head will still be just over his own, so he cannot jump right. If NiroZ moved first than NiroZ would be further along and his body would block Niccus, but that wouldn't change a thing.

This would be true only if Niccus can find a way to move twice in one turn. Which he shouldn't be able to do.

The two snakes you're talking about will be in that position in 4-5 moves, forcing Niccus to turn left, as jumping right is not possible.

Edit: As eytanz said.

I personally find this contest a lot more fun as a spectator sport than as an actual contest - I mean, sure, I'm trying to win, but I don't think that I'll have that much control over whether I do or not. Mostly, I think it's interesting to see how the situation develops.

That said, I'd find this contest a lot more enjoyable if it didn't proceed so darn slowly. I'm hoping that one there is a handful of serpents left than they can all agree to a faster rate and that Erik'd agree to implement it.

Aw, crap. I thought I had something there.
Anyway, my snake is a bit on autopilot, so I thought I'd try to jump in on the who's-gonna-die speculation. Teach me to open my big mouth.

Jeff, now with an owl!

Maybe half an hour per move instead of two hours? I mean, yeah, there's time-zones, but that's what the 24 hours before the start of the arena are for, as well as allowing multiple moves in the queue.

You could have killed me by jumping on your last move. :P I'd have ended up trapped between you and Chaco. It wouldn't necessarily have been in your best interests, but not an obvious mistake either. Something tells me you'd have grabbed it if you saw it.

I may have...but I'm not an aggressive sort. I prefer to just peacefully coil away, waiting for the right moment.

I much prefer to have other snakes out there, risking life and...errr...life.

Interesting. Due to movement order, I'll end up losing the game of chicken, i.e., jumping north before Darkmatt does, which means my head will be out of the way, sending Darkmatt to collide head-on with Jolima instead.

I meant to do that. Really.

But I really can't see how you would have faced an inevitable death, since jbluestein, had he jumped, would have faced yet another jump-or-bump option when he reached Ostegolectr1c's body so at worst you would still be at risk of dying.
Yes, there was a remote possibility of jb inexplicably jumping again (which would have been risky at best), but the way I reasoned was, if he leaves his nice cozy coiling area in the first place, it can only be because he plans to snuff me. Anyway, the moment he bumped, I was no longer in any immediate danger (that I can see), and should be ok for a few days at least, hence my relief.

Oh Stephen4Louise has a long window of safety, that's true, but not nearly enough to carry him through the end of the game. He may or may not win, but he'll need major luck to win by just coiling to victory.

It's going to be a long time before anyone wins this, and I'll have to get out of my nice safe corner in a few days. Until then I'll be sitting here relaxing, waiting for my moment to pounce!

This "stuck" is a bit troublesome for me, since I have a decision on this turn, and my queue has shortened by one, and I don't know if it accepted the move or not. Nor if it accepted the next move I wanted to make, or not. This may be the case for other players as well. And the shortening does alter what my snake will do, whether it accepted the command or not.

I'm gonna guess the game stalling has something to do with the server hiccups a few hours ago.

Even with this the queue shouldn't be shortening until AFTER a move is actually made. At least thats what I'm assuming, based on J still leading mine, after repeated stuck loops.

Any idea if the stuck loop is related to the server outage earlier today/yesterday? Has there been a move since that happened? Or was that just for me, not a real out anyway?

Wait...I was being dumb. I had an old move command that I was remembering. The new one is correct and is not wrong. It is not shorter, the game has just stopped without causing snakial harm.

Yes, we turned off the Snakes! game temporarily last night when the nameserver was down. Most people couldn't get to the site, and we didn't know how long it would last. I'll re-enable the game now, so the next turn should actually occur.

We have our first officially dead snake! Sorry Banjooie, but it's you.

You do have the distinction of being the first snake to die twice, though.

So, assuming that Rabscuttle isn't going to suicide to save Ezlo, we have the following snakes who are either dead or have unavoidable death in their immediate future:

Banjooie
McFrugal (farewell, pit-mate!)
Niccus
Ezlo (EDIT: whoops, as noted above, Tyrion can still save Ezlo without automatically dooming himself)

and I think I've just identified one more:

Jolima is going to get sandwiched between a wall and Chris's head, with nowhere to go. This will occur on or about Turn #81.
I am pretty sure that there is nothing anyone can do to stop it.

I'm sort of torn between my different options right now - I can bump, which will put me in a position to safely leave the top left area and enter the top middle area. Or I can jump, which will put me in a position to either kill Tim or leave the top left into the top right area.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

So Ezlo, if Tyrion doesn't jump as his next decision, would you be "bumped off?" :D

Seriously though, this is a lot of fun. I feel like a sports coach of some kind strategizing in this game... I find myself scrawling various arrows and numbers and little graphs on a current screenshot of the Snakepit in trusty MSPaint. It's like I'm drawing up a game-winning play or something as everything unfolds.
