Thanks eytanz for the comments. I was trying to capture my reactions to the materials but guess I was off some. The colored hearts in the booklet really affected my and hearts are my favorite symbol to day. Thanks for the kind feedback.

Scripting was a challenge for me and I started off trying to do it one way and then saw how others did it and changed to the other method that I used in the heart rooms. I was glad most everyone made theirs anyone edit so any success I have goes to the other designers whos scripting helped me see how best to do mine.

I sure wish there was a cut and paste for scripting but I could never get one to work. And when I wanted to move scroll from one room to another couldn't do that either. Everyone I know says they invented spell checker for me, so sorry for any spelling errors. I didn't have anyone to proof read for me, just no time.
Because I know that you can not take the text and run it through a spell checker and then paste it in to scripting or scrolls I am not down grading other for typos or misspellings. I am just glad I can read.

Everyone did a great job!!

I've played thorugh all the entries now and here are some comments:

Firstly I think that all the entries are good and personally I enjoyed Chaco's entry most. Tahnan's entry also impressed me but I found the fact that you died if you got the sword scene wrong slightly annoying.

In general I think that several entries could have done with using the 'Flush Speech' command. This could prevent the speech from going out of synch with the actions and would allow people to play thorough the hold at a faster pace.

Like eytanz I preferred the holds where you actually played as the main character and in particular those that actually stirred up some emotion. These included Chaco's mugging, that must have been a horrible event, and Techant's religious views.

Oh and Jason got an extra mark for making me laugh when his bomb device failed to prevent me going through the luggage scanner.

If you Flush Speech Off, it gets rid of the speech. Flushing it back on then allows speech to be done. This allows for speech to be skipped if you go through events quickly.

JtRH Level 12 Once North is a good example of this.

Also I voted Jason's Story of You Contest Entry as my number one favorite even over the current leader Chaco. Jason's had more interesting elements in it and I didn't get lost wondering what to do.

Chaco's was good and had a shocker but I spent alot of time wondering where to go in the Library and that was not the central point of action.

Flush speech has two different modes - "on" and "off".

When set to "off", flush speech just removes all previously queued speech. It is used in interactive rooms to make sure characters react sensibly - say, in some of the slayer rooms in JtRH, the slayer gives a short speech taunting you on how you cannot defeat him. Really fast players can defeat him before the speech is over, so in that case "flush speech off" is used to make him stop talking. Afterwards, you can put in new speech which will start immediately.

When set to "on", flush speech makes all the currently queued speech appear on screen at once. It doesn't work very well if there's more speech that can be displayed at once (since then some of it won't appear), but it can be used for a variety of purposes. It's not ideal - most of what it can do is handled better by careful use of speech delays - but sometimes it's simpler to use, and (unlike speech delays) you can tie it to more complicated conditions (using IF commands) in interactive rooms.

Oh, gee. I'm sorry. I thought it would be sort of obvious, seeing as I was going to return a book. However, in real life the library did not have a big sign saying "GO HERE TO RETURN BOOKS". Since I had based most of my hold as close to real life as possible at that point, I decided to go with real life. :/

The hold is actually (somewhat) interactive. Two things:

1. If I destroy the bed (tar), my mother comes and yells at me.

2. If, at any point, I unreasonably wander off (say, going into my house's basement or going back into the library after leaving) I casually advise myself against such actions.

Also, if you tried to go to the basement and approached the locked door, you get a reminder that you should return the book first.

I think it was more the part after that, when the librarian seems to open a door for you, you go down the stairs and theres that 'wall' that isn't there in real life. I then wandered around for ages before realising the stairs on the right back at the entrance got me somewhere new.. ;) but I enjoyed it none-the-less.

You never met our director...

I tried to keep the dying minimal, and to include hints as to what you needed to do. Basically, though, I wanted to simulate the "take it from the top" idea of running a scene. Apologies if that ended up being too annoying.
