Good news everybody: I need to work out and shower. That means I'm not going to get to arranging the entries for at least another couple hours. So if anyone's still plugging away on theirs, or if anyone needs to do some final testing and maybe replace a submission they've already put in, you still have time.

I really did want to enter this contest, but considering it took me about 3 months to create one small hold -- and that was with the wonderful help of testers -- I realised pretty quickly this just wasn't going to happen. Sorry.

I know how you feel Trickster. We had two weeks but I really did most of the work yesterday. Glad you made that one room easier as I usually do get stuck with these contest entries. I never could get the 'End' and End on Exit' script to work right for me so if it plays the cutscene when you reenter the room sorry I tried.

Also- let me put in a request for a RPG version hold contest about the number of the eighth. I never could get it to work for this one so I went back to TCB.

Yeah. I like hard, but this was just way too hard, and not fun-hard. But I didn't nerf it much. It's not what I'd call an "easy" hold; just tough enough to be fun. If I had more time I would have ramped up the difficulty on a couple of rooms and added scripting (other than simple dialogue).

I suspect that most people who attempt my submission will not be able to beat it, but I may just be pessimistic. So prove me wrong, dammit!

My entry is quite tricky itself, and I will be uploading demos after the poll goes up. I suggest that others do the same.

Thanks for the demos. I may need them if I want to finish reviewing before the voting deadline!

I suppose that compared to other contests it takes a bit more time to make a hold, especially one which you think worthy of submission. I would guess that it could be hard or easy depending on whether or not you really wanted it to have clever, polished, difficult puzzles.

Regardless, I thank everyone for their effort and look forward to playing through some holds, any of which are more than likely worthy of submission to the hold board. It sounds like fun to me!

That seems to be typical of architecture contests. I actually included demos with the hold itself this time around. I also left mine anyone-edit, although that doesn't seem to have been in the rules this time.

There's a bit of tricky stuff in mine, as well, but the difficulty level varies a lot--some of them are more creative-thinking type puzzles with many solutions. It takes me 15-20 minutes each time I test it (or considerably less if I skip the cutscenes), but that's bound to be different for players seeing the puzzles for the first time.

I'm looking forward to seeing all of these holds. I'm sure we have quite a variety in here. Also, I don't recall seeing any of your work in the past, Trickster, so I'm particularly looking forward to that.

Careful not to encourage re-submits though. A deadline is a deadline and a little extra time isn't fair to those who did observe it...

Nope, anything that fixes glitches is probably a good thing. I just was hoping it wouldn't encourage others to "remove that easy room and replace it with something more clever I just thought up" type of thing.

I agree about doing major upgrades after the deadline, but Trickster is talking about a small change as permitted my the hosts suggestion. Still don't see a poll yet though.

Yeah, I totally dropped the ball on getting the poll up today. I'm cutting off the submissions right now, and the poll is going to go up tomorrow evening when I get back from my Dad's place. Voting will be extended accordingly.

TheTrooper, do you have a different account that you lost or changed or something? It doesn't make much sense that your first post talks about contest contributions, which tend to be pretty advanced stuff around here (particularly architecture contests). Are you a long-time DROD player?

Their posts sound as though they aren't a native English speaker, and are just as unlikely to be from a spammer (actually mentioning contest prizes means it's a human looking through many of the posts) as it is from an actual user.

I give them the benefit of the doubt because people can be pretty weird. Maybe it's a DROD player who either used another account previously, is a bit aspie, or really fumbles with English (or some combination of the above).

Not a hyena. Those things are rather smelly.

But anyway. The only two 2-pointers are E-less post (nope), three consecutive posts each six hours apart (nope), or accusing three different forum members of being spam-bots in three different threads (I'm not the one currently accusing).

I get the consecutive post award for several of the bug reports I make, anyway. Moreso if one counted beta boards.
