The People's Choice Hold Awards.

The Background:

In late 2004, our very own Patrick Fisher created the concept of an award show to recognize some of the greatest hold builders and the masterpieces they created. Many people thought this was a novel concept, although he had only created it to feel like less of a miser when it came to moderation points. Nevertheless, the show was born, and it was destined for moderate success.

The very first ceremony consisted of seven different categories, and brought an interesting new awareness to some nearly forgotten holds. The big winner of the show was Wesley Chua, taking home Hold of the Year with his fantastic hold, Bavato's Dungeon. The rest can be seen here

Creating the Tradition:

In 2005, forum veteran Ryan (Robobob3000) took over the reins of this little award show. His biggest contribution to the ceremony was the unofficial name of "The Deadlies". The show jumped from seven categories to eleven, and participation increased greatly, partially thanks to the publicity we got in DROD's monthly email newsletter.

Of that year's winners, Larry Murk's architectural skills were rightly recognised, netting him a grand total of three awards, including the great Hold of the Year award for his Smitemaster Selection hold Perfection.

Subsequent Events:

Later years saw the proceedings helmed yet again by Patrick, followed by CuriousShyRabbit, one of the community's top contributors, Trickster, a relative newcomer, and RabidChild in 2013. These subsequent events saw even greater numbers of categories and nominations, in particular with the new category of Best DROD RPG hold, after the release of DROD RPG: Tendry's Tale.
