I'd like to take a moment to thank the late voter who gave a 9 to the tenth entry, thereby giving it at least one vote for every rating. (I wonder if that's a contest first?) Additionally, I'm grateful to everyone who gave it votes low enough to drag it down to below a 5, where I predicted it would be, and indeed nearly to the bottom, where it probably totally deserves to be. Though (to reiterate from my comment above) it ended up with the highest standard deviation, which is to say roughly the biggest disagreement over its rating, and I think that qualifies it as a success.

Leaving this here as a note of established precedent, and *certainly* not as a means of tooting my own horn. Because I would never, ever do that. Ever. Plus, it leaves everyone in the four-way statistical tie with a prize, which is nice too.

Hi everyone, sorry it took me a while to get here to announce the prizes, I had a family emergency. Long story short, Papa's got a brand new bag, where by "Papa" I mean my grandfather, and by "bag" I mean hip.

Results:
Let it be forever known that on this day, the residents of The Eighth have chosen a brand new Official Number, and that the chosen number is... Pi. Congratulations to Dischorran for submitting the winning entry, you have won 100 rank points + an item of your choosing from the Prize Pile tm.

Close behind Pi, separated only by 0.04, was the entry I was least rooting for, for reasons that shall become obvious later today, 17603.3. This was also submitted by Dischorran, oddly enough. But he already won first, so :P on that. We now move down to the next winner:

Actually coming in second was the number 9, with a final score only 0.12 behind the winning entry. Second prize and 50 rank points go to Bombadil.

And finally, third prize and 25 rank points go to Tahnan, whose entry for 3 was only 0.04 behind second place.

Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to everyone for entering!

Awesome! Pi is a perfect number for the Eighth! (On a side note, my entry sucked and wasn't even advertising material.)

Can we find out now whose entries were whose? Or will that remain private except where people state them here?

Mine was entry three. I didn't have any ideas that I thought were really great, but nonetheless I did what I could. My own opinion of it varies. It shouldn't be too hard to see where my statement came from:
I look forward to the look(s) on your face.
One of the reasons it looks particularly cluttered is the large 89%-transparent text which covers much of the center. It was difficult to balance one problem from the other--the first problem being that that text would be unnoticeable, the second that that text would be distracting. Perhaps there was no right answer.

Congratulations to Dischorran, Bombadil, and Tahnan!

EDIT: Also, I could have regenerated the background with less variation in lightness. That probably would have helped considerably.

I think I forgot to mention it earlier, so --

I've awarded prizes to the winners of the March contest. Congratulations!

Hmm...it's a good thing that 17603.3 took second place. If it had been the most popular choice, that would have been inexplicable. But par for the course on the Eighth.

It would have totally messed up the contest schedule too, since contests are based on previous contest results this year.

Apologies for the bump, but I didn't want to create a new thread with the title 'not dr0d 3' in case that excited people :)

Tahnan, was your entry completely made up for this contest, or is there a not dr0d 3 in progress? Because it looked really good :P

Very, very slow progress. Really need to come back to it. I just sort of wrote myself into a corner with the premise, insofar as--call it less of a spoiler and more of a teaser--I need 26 puzzles, and I've got a little over half of them written (as well as several auxiliary puzzles), but I'm so very much starting to run out of ideas.
