How so? It seems like a simple concept with some potential to it, particularly with some cunning level design. Drawing, say, your own catapult would be most entertaining.

Wait, Harding is no longer worst /or/ second worst? When did that happen?

Yeah, I find this hard to buy.

Hmm...what does "simple" have to do with being the best IGF game of 2008? Are we talking old-school is Teh Win here? Like Space Invaders? Like art deco? And a game with an idea "with some potential" in no way means it should even be considered to receive a grand prize...unless everything else is even worse. Were I a judge, I would have said, "Why don't you get some of that potential into your game and let's see it again for real next year."

But I think I should mount my argument properly in another thread about game play and design.

Interesting read, though I think the last page's analogies relating to modern technology are rather strained and clumsy.

I suppose they were trying to spruce up very old common knowledge. I mean, gunpowder has been considered to be magic by naive natives as far back as the 15th century.

Very very cool. Reminded me of this Honda commercial. I'm pretty certain they had a bigger budget to work with, so the "brilliant" factor isn't as high, but it's still pretty amazing seeing as it's all real time -- no CGI.

Actually... they did cheat slightly. It's not one continuous shot, it's two, spliced together at a certain point in the middle. But still epically awesome nonetheless.

I just find the creme egg one extra impressive because it's home made.

Draw an image, get an image. Basically, you draw something with a mouse, hit "swap" button and receive someone else's drawing. It's quite fun, I have to admit:

Sketch swap.
Another sketch swap (no moderation, has undo/reset).

Cool, its actual practical suggestions instead of that "don't buy gas on day X!" nonsense that always floods the internet.

I must say I like the message, but I honestly don't understand why Americans are actually complaining about high oil prices. A gallon of petrol costs here (in Europe) about 9 US dollars, and people here are still buying it. (It's 1.5 euros per litre, so converting to gallons and dollar it's about 9.)

Americans are greedy (no offense) and want more money for an unknown purpose. Spending money on gas and petrol uses up that money.
