Socrates meets Jesus
What the title says. A quite entertaining read, if you're not offended by logical arguments against christianity.
Terrible. It's easy to argue against a straw man. For instance,
[Plagues, wars, death, suffering and evil] come from the Devil, the prince of darkness; or from man's weakness and evil nature.
For one thing, speaking textually, plagues do in fact come from G-d (see, say, Exodus). For another, it's hugely inaccurate to say that, in Christian doctrine, evils come from the Devil, rather than from humans. Or:
An angel is an angel.
Socrates, in his gentle socratic way, makes Jesus seem stupid for uttering this--because it is, indeed, a terrible definition. Once again, it's easy to make your straw man look stupid. Or:
The Bible says thou shalt not partake of wine or strong drink.
Really? Where does it say that? Given that Jesus
turned water into wine, and that he drank wine with his disciples at the last supper (and, if we add extratextual information, wine is part of the Christian communion surface, medieval monks made wine, etc.), I'm inclined to believe that the Bible saws no such thing.
And so on, and so forth. If you want to present arguments against Christianity, do so intelligently.
[Disclaimer: I'm Jewish; I have no vested interest in the success of Jesus's debate against Socrates.]
