One player has decided to remove themself from the game. Since the first vote hasn't yet occurred, I'm fine with replacing this person with someone else who wants to join the game. Any takers?

You may want to post that request in a new topic as people not playing may be ignoring this thread. For instance, I never click on the Mafia and RPG Anon threads.

I'm not sure what the reason for filling this slot is. If it's to make the teams equal, I should let you know that I'm planning to suicide out on the first vote. After that there will be an even number of total players again.

If each tribe has a player quitting prior to the first vote, I can just remove both players from the game now and revise this to be a 14-person game. The current challenge can continue as scheduled, though the Mud tribe will need a new representative.

I think that's the best course of action here. Anybody opposed?

Okay then, we'll go with that. CSR and Lamkin are both removed from the game, bringing each tribe down to seven players. I will post a revised schedule of game events in an unhidetime tag soon.

This current challenge will continue as normal. CSR had submitted Mud's moves for round 2, and I will continue to accept them unless someone opposes. In the meantime, I'd like the Mud Coordinators to choose a new representative.

Lamkin and CSR, if you'd like to continue assisting your tribes with this challenge, go right ahead. But I'll consider you officially removed upon its completion, and neither of you will get to cast votes.

(In general, I prefer quitting over suicide votes. Quitting doesn't waste a challenge.)

Round three starts now. Since we're getting into the swing of things, I'll lower the time limit to 48 hours. Choose two cards. Mud Coordinators, since you haven't chosen a new representative, I'll just accept the first PM I receive from anybody on your tribe as your submission.

Round four starts now. You have 48 hours.

I'm going to be absent from 2/12-2/23. Sorry about that - poor planning on my part. I will ensure that future challenges will run quicker.

(Note: I accidentally edited this post into oblivion - recreated it to the best of my ability.)

A reminder: Each tribe chooses two cards this round.

I'll also add that if either tribe can provide me adequate proof of their victory (that the opposing tribe also accepts), I am willing to call this challenge early.

Again - if one of the tribes can prove their victory (presumably easier now with six cards remaining), we can end this challenge early.

We currently have a lead of 3 sets.

Our next move is BCB, followed by one of ABA, ABB, or ABC (one of the ones you don't choose this round, all those three cards are completely equivalent at this point in time). Lets suppose it happens that we go ABA.

Then, regardless of whether we get those cards or they become discards, the only remaining ways you can get a set:
a) choose ABC (to form a set with BCA and AAB)
b) choose ABB (to form a set with BCA and CAC)
c) choose both of ACB and ACA (to form a set with ACC)

So no matter what we pick, you can't get all three options to tie.

(In fact, we're guaranteed a 3 set win whatever you do if we choose BCB next. That's far harder to explain though :))

Sweet. Yeah, even if we knew we were going to win it has been pretty tricky giving a conclusive argument until now.

(I wouldn't be surprised if we had a forced win after the first round, really..)

Then we'll call it! By a score of five sets to two, the Tar Technicians win immunity! They are safe from this round's vote.

That means that the Mud Coordinators will need to vote out one of their own. I will be expecting votes from Pinnacle, Dischorran, larrymurk, Someone Else, Dex Stewart, Snacko, and VIPCOOL.

Please refer to the voting rules posted here. You have 48 hours to PM me your vote.

PS: This was an interesting challenge with regards to the thought processes it forced on you guys, but the fact that it was nearly impossible to lose a lead once you had one kinda made this one flop. But it was an experiment - at least it wasn't weighted one way or the other before the first set of picks. Future tribal challenges will be different, I assure you.

As promised, here are my revisions to the game to shrink it from a 16-player game to a 14-player game, hidden in unhidetime tags:

We will play exactly the same as I had planned before, except we will not be performing any pre-merge tribal swap.

Challenge #2 will be self-directed, and I'd like to kick it off before I leave on my vacation.

Tar Technicians, before we get started with the next challenge, we need to even out the teams. Since you will have one more player than the Mud Coordinators, one of you will need to sit this challenge out. I'd like for you to make this decision and announce publicly in the thread.

I'd like to post the next challenge immediately after I post Tribal Council #1. It will not be time sensitive and will not require a representative to submit PMs.

Don't worry, the person you sit out isn't getting eliminated form the game. Evening the teams for challenges by sitting players out is standard operating procedure for Survivor. Besides, I'm not that mean.

Oh, by the way. I forgot to tell you guys. I'm secretly playing in the game too. And the first time you try to vote me out I'm automatically immune and two of you guys are eliminated in my place. And my votes count double.

This is totally fair! I asked someone on the internet about it and they said they liked it.

So on Survivor, teams get a look at the challenge before they decide who sits out. Could we at least get a heads up on what kind of challenge or what kind of skills are going to come into play before we decide? One of the 3 R's? Creativity? Research? DROD? Economics?

That's a good point. I had thought about that, but I didn't want advance knowledge of the type of challenge to affect Mud's vote.

I'll give the Tar tribe a hint about the challenge privately so you can make your decision. This shouldn't give you any unfair advantage.

Tribal Council #1

The Mud Coordinators took their torches and trudged their way to Tribal Council. Their galoshes goopy and caked with red, they left messy footprints as they walked around the bonfire and took a seat on a log opposite RoboBob. Pinnacle, Dischorran, larrymurk, Someone Else, Dex Stewart, Snacko and VIPCOOL shivered, awaiting their fate.

Challenge #2: Assorted Games

This challenge will be simple, and you should be able to run through it on your own without my guiding hand until I return from my vacation. 12th Archivist will be sitting out for the Tar Technicians.

You will be competing for high scores in the following three online games:

Tontie: http://www.eyezmaze.com/eyezblog_en/blog/2004/05/tontie_ver1.html#monster

Winterbells: http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/g3/bells.htm

Poom: http://gprime.net/game.php/poom

Each player will have 12 days from the time of this post to email me (***address redacted***) screenshots of their highest score in each game. Each player will be sending me three screenshots, and I will only accept your first submitted shot for each game.

Now I realize that judging by screenshots is by no means airtight – I’ve got no way to stop you from doctoring images. We will be going mainly by the honor system here. If you feel like cheating, I’d recommend solitaire instead. Just to provide some safeguard against people gaming the system, I’m going to employ the following measures:

1. All screenshots should contain something that uniquely identifies the player in them, such as a sliver of your desktop showing behind your browser window. If you have questions regarding what would be acceptable, run your idea past me and I’ll let you know if it’s cool.

2. When the challenge is over, I will post all submitted screenshots collected in a zip file. If anybody can prove to me that a screenshot was doctored, I’ll review and take appropriate action.

3. Just don’t cheat, okay? Vote cheaters out. They’re just going to cheat you later, too.

After I have screenshots from everybody, I will begin tallying the final scores, one game at a time. If a player fails to submit, they score zero points for that game. All individual scores will be made public after the challenge is over, but that doesn’t imply you need to keep them private until then.

For each tribe, game by game, I will take all of the submissions, throw out the lowest score, and take the average of the remaining scores. I will compare each tribe’s average score for each game. The tribe with the highest average score for at least two of the three games will win immunity for the round.

Before I tally the final scores, there will be one final component to this challenge. I will inform you of it when we reach that point.

Not that I expect it, but if you’re having technical issues with the games on your computer, tough beans. Find a way around it. Play from a friend’s computer. It’s like the actual game of Survivor – it doesn’t matter if you can’t swim, we’re still holding the challenge in the water.

If you have any questions, ask away. If a majority of you (seven players, 12th Archivist not included) want to veto one of the games and can agree on an appropriate replacement, let me know and I’d be happy to make adjustments. I will likely be slow to respond, but I don’t think I’m going to vanish entirely between now and the end of the challenge.

The challenge starts now! Good luck!

PS: In Tontie, I will be accepting your score, not your number of coins. In Winterbells, I will accept “Previous High Score” as your score. In Poom, I will accept “Your Best” as your score.
