The contest submission phase for the EEG is now closed. While the field is narrow, it is wide in scope. All of you represent the Commission and must now judge the entries based on the criteria set out in the contest description: whether the room actually can be defined as an “everyone” game, leisure activity or sport, as well as creativity, aesthetics, enjoyment and adherence to the spirit of the EEG principles of excellence, leisure and amusement. Architects should vote 10 for their own submissions.

Entries are posted below in a zip folder in the first post and then individually in posts following.

I was playing around with some ideas and ended up building two rooms : Tic Tac Golem and Spinner Block Rocket. Although I'm not entering them in the contest, I am posting them here so they can be tested and included in a compilation hold, should one be made. Should anyone else be interested in submitting a post-contest game idea for a compilation hold, feel free to attach it in either the submission thread or the main contest thread.

Voted, of course. I can't actually think of much to say about the individual holds, except that running through all of them goes quite quickly, and they're generally enjoyable. And, I suppose, that winning at Tic Tac Toe is much easier when only one side is playing.

I'll comment too. First of all, for those who haven't played Oracle of Seasons, it is a game where the main character, Link, acquires the Rod of Seasons which allows him to change the season when atop a tree stump. The surroundings change depending on the season and I did my best given my time limit to DRoDify what happens.

1) In summer, not only do lakes dry up like in my hold, but some walls grow vines allowing you to climb them.

2) In spring, not only do some waters turn into rapids, but also flowers blossom allowing you to cut them (before they were soft) or use them to shoot upwards (think Piranha Plants that spit you up).

3) In autumn, there's not much to say here apart from the fact that pits will have leaves scattered atop them allowing you to cross.

4) And in winter, lakes dry up, snow builds in some places allowing you to walk on top of them like bridges and trees lose their leaves, making them thinner so you can pass through them.

Now onto reviewing the other holds:

To clarify a few things, since not everyone quite got it, I think:

A number of the above comments state that they didn't understand what "Capture and Kill" was an adaptation of. If you're not getting it, I refer you to the original contest posting: These can be adaptations of existing games or an original idea.

Paranoia is a roleplaying game in which you're part of an insane hyper-dictatorial anti-Commie society, and in which you have backup clones, which is useful because there's a tendency to make a simple error that gets you killed (e.g., entering a sector without authorization, or using a device that it turns out wasn't well tested, or saying "Ah, what a beautiful day!" which suggests that you appreciate nature and therefore hate the all-loving Computer and must be a Commie traitor).

As for the mirror game, it's possible that the game it's adapted from isn't universally familiar, in which case there's a good explanation at this Wikipedia page, though you shouldn't read up on it until after you've played.

Thanks Tahnan, I must have misread the guidelines. Nevertheless, I still voted it high for it being fun and thinking it was an adaptation of a herding-type game which usually involves farm animals (I have no idea what I'm talking about). Also, I get The Mirror Game now. How evil. I felt like something was wrong :lol

Also, CSR, sorry about the whiny message, thought I needed to place an unnecessary message explaining why I put up what I thought was a low-quality hold, being the type to degrade myself. Turns out some people actually liked it, so next contest, I think I'll definitely have a good chance at 1st place :D

Based on some comments, I think I should mention a couple of things. One, although the submission could be based on an existing game, the criteria stated you could also create a new one. Two, an "Everyman" style game is simply one that anyone can start playing without lots of training, but is not necessarily a game that everyone will play well or beat easily. For instance, checkers is a pretty simple game to learn, but people play it at different levels.

Hopefully that clears up any potential misunderstanding.

Thanks for the explanation, but this doesn't make my judging any easier. Because what we get now is that there are two different kinds of holds here. One group thought that your idea was to make a room so simple that everyone can finish, while another group made rooms that match your quoted intention.

And of course the two groups are pretty incomparable. So I think I will judge them according to how suitable they are to your original rules. I don't know how to do that yet, though.

I am sad you marked me down for using an original idea as the rules did allow for that.
These can be adaptations of existing games or an original idea.
This was based on the carnival type game you might find in a DROD world.

Yes, if you had to start over it was annoying that was intentional, after all they really didn't want to give out the best prizes...but really it was made so simple that as the rules said anyone could win. You may have over thought it.:kiss

As to the spelling errors I did my best to catch them all but I was having a really bad time with the cut and paste aspects with the scripts. Besides with all the folks here who do not have English as there first language, no spell check in the software and no beta testing for contests I do not beat anyone up for spelling. But that is your call.

Please Note: With so many customer complaints management has decided for the compilation to add a save to eliminate the frustration. Also spelling errors will be fixed if they are submitted in triplicate please PM management. Compile version 1 has been added here for review. Sorry for any inconveniences you experienced but there will be no refunds. Thank you Bugsquisher Management (Pun Intended)

As far as I know, there's no rule against this. Upon request, I have beta tested people's entries for previous contests. You just have to ask.
