British? Born and bred in England, so I speak English English. Actually, I speak in a broad Yorkshire dialect, which is probably another language on its own.

seriously tho, engish sould be counted as english, not its variations

Is engish spoken by engineers? If so, that's another language I speak. ;) (Sorry, I don't normally pick up on spelling or typo's, but I couldn't resist this time.)

BTW, my original post was jokingly referring to the stereotypical - in the UK at least - loud American tourist, and the also stereotypical UK tourist abroad, who thinks he/she can make johnny foreigner understand by speaking English louder and s l o w e r. :)

Edit: For the record, I can only speak English. I was taught French and Latin, but as my education - for what it was worth - finished 42 years ago, neither are fresh in my mind.

That was shorthand for "I have a German girlfriend and we'll spend the night together playing Scrabble".

Sorry, I cannot come up with a better interpretation.

Well, DROD doesn't have a proper multiplayer mode for the time being. CaravelNet isn't quite the same thing, and local CaravelNet seems to defeat the whole point.

It could be worked around, though. All you need is two screens and probably a change in the source code of the game, so that two DROD processes can run at the same time on the computer... or just put two computers right next to each other.

You would then have something looking like a multiplayer mode, where the goal would be to conquer a given hold as fast as possible. The possibilities are endless really: do you imagine a DROD convention with thirty players rushing through, say, Bavato? Even better, you could have four teams on a DROD marathon, where the goal would be to play through all the conquerable rooms in the game... the other players would, of course, be useful to take over after you've gone through 74 hours of DROD madness nonstop.

That would also trigger a search for the most optimised DROD, since the program's speed is critical. I can just see people trying every single OS under the moon, a bunch of architectures, and even more optimised compilers just to gain a split-second while loading the game. Now if you will excuse me, I've got to work on my very own *Nix for DROD system.

Where in the post did I say about multiplayer? There are many ways to play DROD together without multiplayer, but I don't think this is the right forum for it ;)

You know, considering the kind of forum this is, I'm surprised Klingon hasn't been mentioned at least once.

Anyway, English and French myself.

Although I don't speak Klingon, I do have a decent understanding of Lojban, which is probably an even more this-forum-y language than Klingon.

I'm a US citizen, born and raised. Other than English, I speak very bad Hebrew, worse Russian, even worse Japanese, and so little Spanish that I don't even mention it anymore. I used to be semi-conversational in all of those except for Spanish...but time passes and the brain turns to mush.

Hah, this thread is quite a blast from the past, and just reminded me what a huge amount of time I've spent on this forum. If it still serves its purpose, though, feel free to discuss the topic further.

(I know, necro-quoting.) Sometimes that actually works. :) In America in particular I've noticed that many people have trouble understanding me if I speak normally, but if I slow down quite a bit or put on a bad American accent things go a lot smoother.
