I'm assuming the reason it's slowing down is just because it's impossible to tell how many more iterations of the test/fix/test/fix cycle are left, but progress is being made. It's probably going to be slow for a while longer and then jump to 99.8 or so for the release candidate.

Disclaimer: this is pure speculation.

There is progress being made, but some of us have actually slowed down. I'm not getting much time this last month to work on the parts I need to complete in order to get the game out the door. My apologies for that. I am tempted to feel guilty, but I know players here are supportive and understand that we're trying to do our best, so I'll keep a positive attitude about the slowdown.

I can say that all changes being made right now are improving the quality of the game and play experience. It's not just fluff. (Heh, that stuff's already done. :) )

Method 1: 650 days (August 3, 2012 to May 15, 2014) ÷ 85% (13.5% to 98.5%) = 7.647 days/% (previously 7.325)
⇒ end in 11 days, i. e. on May 26, 2014 (previously April 29, 2014).

Method 2: 750 days (April 25, 2012 to May 15, 2014) ÷ 98.5% (0% to 98.5%) = 7.614 days/% (previously 7.337)
⇒ end in 11 days, i. e. on May 26, 2014 (previously April 29, 2014).

Method 3: 541 days (November 20, 2012 to May 15, 2014) ÷ 82.5% (16% to 98.5%) = 6.558 days/% (previously 6.220)
⇒ end in 10 days, i. e. on May 25, 2014 (previously April 26, 2014).

Method 4: 197 days (October 30, 2013 to May 15, 2014) ÷ 11.4% (87.1% to 98.5%) = 17.281 days/% (previously 15.229)
⇒ end in 26 days, i. e. on June 10, 2014 (previously May 14, 2014).

The Bar is slowing down again. Even the fourth method no longer makes sense :(

Neat graphs!

Time to throw an anomaly into the predictions. The OS X beta build and installer are now ready, and trick is getting the Linux installer ready. So, I've bumped up progress accordingly.

Edit: whoa, I just got ninja'd :)

What's basically left:
* Wrapping up hold tweaks and beta testing (about a week?)
* Preparing and testing the demo version (a few days?)
* Some final coding (can be done in parallel)
* Press Release and Illumination (~1 day)

So about 2 weeks? That is going to be nearly ideal for me... the last day of finals is May 29 and then I have the whole summer off.

Aw, my exams are about a week later!

Don't worry, I'll get in touch with the examiners and explain why they'll have to move them back a few weeks. :)

Dammit, I'll never have time to replay both JtRH and TCB now...
Plus my exams end on June 25. Could you push the release until then? We've waited two years, what's a couple weeks more...

No need for that. Also technically the wait has been seven years, since TSS is a sequel to TCB, not to GatEB.

I've decided to put one more new cosmetic feature into the game engine to polish the experience. This will put the release back a bit, so I'm now shooting for a June 8-15 release.

For people who have exams in June, rejoice! For everyone else, I'm sure you'll still like these changes when you see them and you'll think the small delay is worth it. Thanks for your patience!

Keep pushing back the release date. We're fine waiting for another year. It's not like it's been 7 or so years.

Well, we do seem to be in a dangerous game... it's always bad for someone, and better for them if it's later. With these latest dates, it's starting to get bad for me and it'd be much better if it was held off until September.

Funtime sarcasm aside, I'd argue the main issue with constant delays isn't how long the wait is, but that people have actually paid for the product via pre-orders. I'm not really into the whole 'buy an unreleased product' thing for various reasons, but based on the ETA given it seemed to be more convenient to pre-buy. Key word being 'seemed' since on the day I get round to doing it, delays! In such a manner that the previous conveniences aren't (okay I might of ordered a few days in advance in case of payment problems but still). Of course currently I'm kind of being Mr. Grumpy about this since I was being losing out.

I guess the point is once you start taking people's money, you need an actual concrete planned (what contradiction) release date. Obviously, sudden emergencies that come up are valid reasons for delays, but the whole 'sure you said x but you're indie so it's okay' attitude feels less, right? I keep thinking about Aliens: Colonial Marines because pre-orders, and Duke Nukem Forever because 'oh we are just adding w... and h... and η' type feelings. It's probably silly at this point, but still. Words. The point being yes I have other games I can play, but I do actually want to play this one especially now I've put money forward.

this is my opinion, it probably rambles because I write stuff, delete half and continue at a different angle.

Just don't delay until 2015 and make me reverse my greenlight vote! (i wouldn't actually that to you guys, <3)

I'd just like to clarify that we've come a long way since the start of beta testing, and release really is just around the corner. There have been a couple of hundred (!) reported issues of which only a few are left. I do think the game has become much better by not releasing on April 1st, it would really have felt rushed then and fixing things post-release is so much harder.

Also, I think everyone should stop complaining about release date, it is obvious it won't be released until about 01/04 next year.
