Probably the most extreme I've ever gotten on a puzzle in DROD was in KDD, the maze level. I took a screenshot of every single room, printed them all, taped them together, then used a pencil to figure out the correct route. When that didn't work, I did it again, only instead of printing it out, copied them all into one huge bitmap file. Then, once I had them all aligned and everything, I used different colors in Paint, and just filled in each path... it automatically solved the puzzle for me with no mess. I was very proud of myself. :D

How 'bout you? Called in 5 relatives to help? Stood on your head for awhile, to get that "new perspective"?

I did that on level 13 also.
In this one beta hold one time, someone tried to do a puzzle with lots of "wait for NPC at", and rather than solving the easy puzzle I just blocked NPCs from moving until the scripting fell apart and I could pass.

I used MS Paint to solve a couple of TCB secrets. Specifically these two:

You know how in a lot of supermarkets, they have huge tiles that are different colors every so often? That's when my Beethro role playing starts getting a little too realistic.

Or maybe it's when I whip out my Really Big Sword.

I solved KDD Level 13 by trying to walk every single path... it worked.

Once while on a plane I was incredibly bored and I created and solved several puzzles on the graphing paper I brought for drawing D&D maps and I solved them by drawing the monsters in their new squares. It was a tedious process, but I did it.

I taped a ziplock bag over the monitor so i could write on the screen for some of those 11th level KDD rooms.

Oh man, I wish I had thought of that yesterday. One of the TCB rooms was giving me a headache, and drawing on the screen would have made it _way_ easier.

Pencil and graph paper, screen capture and paint program (for when pencil and paper would be cumbersome to duplicate), systematic brute force, Perl scripts, scissors and pencil crayons... I've done a lot of things to solve DROD puzzles.

Oh, and I've also demonstrated techniques like back swiping to a friend while in an HMV store.

That should read "your", or otherwise you're seriously changing the song.

Of course I'm changing the song :P I started in the first line - the original lyric was "Put a gun against his head, pulled the trigger, now he's dead". Plus it wasn't asked as a question.

You don't need to come in with your thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening me!

Did someone say Galileo? :P

True, but note that the song doesn't say "your" either. All your other changes are a result of changing the song from 1st person to 2nd person and making it a question. This change is thematic, changing what the song is about to some degree.

]I think we're getting a little bogged down in detail :) 'twas just a simple Queen homage.

On-topic - the strangest thing I've ever done to solve a DROD room was bet a friend a drink that he couldn't solve a room in under five minutes (one I'd been struggling with some some time). Took him six minutes, but I bought him the drink anyway.

A few times I've rebuilt a room in the editor so I could solve it with unlimited undo before I solved it without. This is a bit harder than it seems when one factors in movement order.

Wow, I thought I was the only one.

I cut post-it notes into little squares the size of the floor and put them on orbs, trapdoors or just about anything hidden under tar or mud. Or I number them to strike the orbs in the correct order. You all are smarter than me. I like the bag over the screen idea.

I have seriously considered that a few times but moved to a different hold instead if there was a puzzle/maze under tar. I've since gone back to these at that time after installing the transparency mod.
