The DROD rooms I like best are those that are easy to complete once you look at it from the right angle, but look really tough or impossible until the lightbulb goes off. Anybody got any reccomendations for Holds featuring a lot of these types of rooms?

LarryMurk has quite a few of those type of holds. Award Ceremony I would say falls under that category, but it certainly isn't easy. Others might be more familiar with more of his holds.

I share your view on holds with rooms which *must* be impossible, and then give you that "Aha" moment... :)

Here's a short list, though there may be more (look for holds made by larrymurk, Rheb, blueboy or Doom on this page).

Lynchpin wise:

Recently released "The Spiral" is a good example by Daniel Blochinger.

Larrymurk's "Magic Show", and "Magic Show 2" are as tight as can be (the sequel is slightly easier).

Doom's insane "Beethro's Teacher" is (in my mind) the hardest hold out. Still lynchpin despite a bigger playing surface. You may need to purchase this one separately as it's an SMS though...

Larrymurk's "Arena 3" is definitely impossible. I hope it is, anyway ;) Stumped on the same room for at least a year.

Blueboy's "Blue Rooms" is a masterpiece in element interaction.

Larrymurk's "Don't Kill the Messenger" is a great lynchpin hold.

"Goonhard da Ginky's Cellar" by Geiler Hengst has some very original and tight rooms. Great fun...

Boyblue's "Twenty-Three Rooms" is a perfect example of tight problem solving...

Larrymurk's "Lone Soldier" is a great example of lynchpin swarm management. I hate hordes, but if, like me, you enjoy optimising, then it's worth checking out.

Rheb's "Troshian Tower" is one of my favourite holds ever. Original, tight and just plain fun.

Larrymurk's "Lost Temple" shows why he is the greatest snake room designer. Still convinced none of the rooms are possible :)

Tim's "City of Queens" is a great example of queen-themed lynchpin rooms (yet to complete it).

Larrymurk's "Master Locks" and "Master Locks Expert". Simply a masterpiece in concept deisgn. This is an SMS though so might have to pay for it.

Jeff's "Smart Brain Sanctum" isn't exactly tight lynchpins, but the solution always relies on a moment of genius. Worth a look...

Larrymurk's "Odd Jobs" series (Novice, Medium and Expert) is the best example of reusing the same layout, yet transforming the challenge by changing one thing each time.

Jacob's "Beethro's Generic Quest" is another effortless piece of reusing layout whilst creating various different lynchpin puzzle. Great hold.

Boyblue's "Spare Rooms" is simply astounding. Probably the most original architect when it comes to object interaction.

Larrymurk's "Psycho Therapy" is one of his latest holds. Even with the scrolls clarifying monster order, this hold *will* drive you insane.

Also, keep an eye out for Chaco's up and coming "Terrakept Resonant" which should hopefully be out soon. It's doesn't define the word "lynchpin", but I've yet to see a hold where rooms use so many various elements yet have just the one (sometimes extensive) solution.

--

So that's my list. I apologise if I missed anyone or any hold out... I just scrolled down the holds list and picked the lynchpins ones I had fun with.

I also tried to separate the larrymurk entries with other architects' holds, but that was a challenge in itself :)

Have fun!

Another excellent hold in this genra is Beethro's Generic Quest, by Jacob. Not all the rooms are lynchpin rooms, but quite a few of them are and the design is top-notch. (Jacob and Larry are pretty much my two favorite architects, although there are some very good designs by others out there and my favorites list may have to grow soon.)

That is indeed a very good hold :)

Just, yeah... not lynchpin based.

What, do you mean not at all? Or just not entirely?

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding the use of the term, but I'd say a lot of the rooms in the hold are lynchpin-based.

I just meant that I wouldn't classify it as "lynchpin hold". It's probably one I could have included but whilst looking down the list it didn't hit me as one.

[pause]

Ok, I've looked at it and remember playing it now - the title didn't ring a bell when I was scanning. I knew I might miss some holds but either way I've added it to the list above - great hold :)

Sometimes you can't beat the old ones....

My favorite lynchpin hold has to be The Fool's Errand. Although I would recommend that you play it in JTRH.

Steve.

Good point... I only (finally) solved it because I played it in TCB.

If you're interested, I am also making up rooms in the 'chaco' style in 'Lynchpin Assault'. I think it's the closest to lynchpins I ever got to.

I'd have to say The Spiral. It's just the right amount of difficulty and frustration. The only downside is that it's relatively short.

I'd recommend The City Beneath. It IS one of the three expensive holds ever made but it just may be the best. Not all are lynchpin but a good deal are.
