I like the new level 1, but it is too easy, because the player can walk through walls.

I have gone through all rooms again and (except one room, which I was not able to solve) everything seems fine now.
Furthermore, I have used the (public domain) AE graphics for the 16x16 tiles, slightly modified to fit 16x16.

So, unless someone brings up a bug (code or hold), better graphics or better rooms/levels/hold, I will consider the project finished and will start thinking about what now. Well, what now?

ok I figured it out

I can't just copy it via data-wire,
but I copied the .jar file via bluetooth and then my mobile put it in the right place.

nice game by the way

there was an early mobile drod game (here somewhere on the forum)
it was fun, but this is much nicer

Cool game! Anyhoo, when the blue gates drop, my phone (Nokia 5300) goes:
My stupid phone wrote: Illegal Argument java/lang/IllegalArgumentException Graphics: Invalid anchor. Anchor is: 3
What exactly does this gibberish mean? Am I missing a file? (My files in the phone are: large.jar, me-applet.jar, Generic-midp1-240x240-MobileDROD.jar & .jad, and t610devices.jar.)
Also, I get an "Out of Memory Error" when I change rooms 5-6 times. If the rooms are crowded, it takes less changes than that.

Moreover, in Level 5: 1E, you end up on a wall when you enter 1N1E from the left part of the corridor. In Level 4: Entrance, you don't have to put the mimic in the middle. You can open the doors by putting the mimic into the alcove you want to open.
Click here to view the secret text

Speaking of mimics, they don't bleed when killed.

Oh, and does the game have sounds? Because if there are, I'm not getting them.

Anyway, the game needs an undo key. It's annoying to press the wrong key when killing insane amounts of critters.

I downloaded your game last night and put it on my Motorola SLVR and I must say, I've really enjoyed playing it while at work, even though I have to use the directional pad to view the whole room, it's quite entertaining when it's slow. Thanks for this!

With Bluetooth, right?

It's either the .jar, or .jad.

Try sending both to your phone, and it will automatically install one, and reject the other.

I have a working internet connection since five minutes, so here we go.

what files do i send to my phone?

It's the .jad file, but trying both will work fine. Both have to present by the way.

@Saqqara: What screen size do you have? What version did you install? If the game is to large you might consider installing the smaller version for 128x128 screens.

@Golfdinger:
I always considered a Mimic some kind of Genie (coming out of a bottle..), so why should he bleed? The other points regarding the rooms are not intentional, will fix it.
No, there is no sound. I am not very skilled at graphics, but I fear what would come out if I tried to produce some sounds...

I think I understand what your stupid phone writes, but I don't think that it ought to say that. Does that happen regularly or only once?

I have thought about undi on several occassions, usually when dying to a horde of critters, but this is a memory issue. I could try, but I am not happy with that. I would have to copy the whole room every move. While that is peanuts on a PC, that is quite some effort on the mobile.

Does the Out-Of-Memory error happen in one level in particular? I had that once and thought that I fixed it, but obviously there is still a bug. Was there a number somewhere around that error message? like 12345kb or so?

By the way, you only need the ...mobiledrod.jar and ...mobiledrod.jad files, the others are for the emulator only. And since you have a Nokia, the nokia_...mobiledrod version is much nicer for you.

It is just me, or the .jar files are missing?

Actually, the PC version doesn't do it that way. It remembers the list of commands executed since entering the room (the same data that lets it produce demos). On undo, DROD reloads the room, and replays all but the last command internally without updating graphics until done. This strategy would likely be more doable on a mobile, since it's much smaller on memory usage.

That was likely inaccurate, or at least oversimplified. I know Mike recently did something or other to speed up Undo, which probably means that DROD now does make and use full copies of the current room data in some way. But Undo used to be just an N-1 replay, I think.

Cuz he mimics your body chemistry? Or something. Anyway, mimics have a long & proud tradition of bleeding, dating back to Webfoot DROD or further.

Thanks Curzon! Switching to the nokia files got rid of the "out of memory" errors! Anyway:
Curzon wrote:

Each and every time. Switching files didn't help that a bit.
Does the Out-Of-Memory error happen in one level in particular? Was there a number somewhere around that error message? like 12345kb or so?
No and no.

Furthermore, new bugs in the horizon: when starting Mobile DROD for the very first time and choosing "Enter the Dungeon" generates, instead of the game screen, an error of "NullPointerException" or something in that direction. "Continue Game" doesn't produce this, so it's just a minor bug, but it's still annoying.

IIRC, there's an option to control how much memory DROD will use for room copies. When it's set really high, the game will create a copy as much as needed. When low, it does the internal replay (which makes brain rooms really slow).

I thought about storing the moves instead of the last room, but the thought of having to replay the room internally since room start has the disadvantage of beeing very slow.

@new bugs on the horizon:
I will step on you. Yes, on all of you! Die evil rebel bugs! buahah!

Ok, sorry for that, I usually do not get emotional when writing in a forum.

When entering a room with tar directly under your sword, the tar is cut, even when it is an indestructible blob. I noticed this behavior in level 7 1N.

Ha ha, you didn't catch the Secret Underground Bug Rebellion Army! Thus:

- Level 7 is impossible. 1E is required + Blue doors need to be dropped to solve it = oh noes!

- Mismatched corridor in L7: 1E-1N1E - you again end up on a wall

- Force arrows don't block you from changing rooms (as in L6: 1N-2N)

- You don't need to drop the blue doors in
Click here to view the secret text

- When invisible, roach eggs outside the smelling range don't grow.

Wow, that IS a whole army. Guess I know, what to do today in the evening. (Playing DROD of course ;) )

Edit: Level 7 is (possibly) impossible anyways. At least I can't solve the room with the blue door anymore (even with blue doors down). But I am quite sure, that I solved it when I created the room.

Sometimes, when I change to room by room, the phone lags a bit, and then in the next room beethro will appear at 0,0 coordinates and the room will be clear. Restarting the app fix this.

I fixed all of the mentioned bugs, except those "happen sometimes" bugs.

I have seen it once, that Beethro appeared at 0,0, but that was after some faulty stairs. Does that in some rooms in particular? Something special otherwise? (e.g: only in rooms with check mark after stepping on it twice)

I am still thinking about undo, as my current phone is quite powerful. So, memory issues are slightly less important for me now. Maybe I can somehow lower the memory requirement of a saved room (without retracing the whole path).

When I release a fixed version, I will probably open a new thread. That is a good idea.
