Just a quick thing - looking at the counter in the top right, it's not long until we're going to hit 200,000 posts in the forum.

I just have to say that that's really, really impressive Shows that the DROD community is alive and vital.

Yes, deleting posts makes that counter go down and causes the discrepancy. Tim's first link explains it later in the thread (and the reason why two people claimed post 40k).

Hmm. I have a diabolical game in mind:

I will mod the 200,000th post to + or - 5, depending upon its content. If its content would normally be worthy of a mod point, or at least thoughtful and interesting, it shall receive a +5. If it is, to put it bluntly, garbage, it shall receive a -5.

Do you dare play the 'I have the 200,000th post!' game?

Make that + or - 50 . And do the same for the 1000th, 2000th, 3000th and so on posts. THAT is diabolical.

Yes, I noticed that as well when the counter was at 200008.

But it's impossible to know how you should've counted. For example, I had 3 beta board posts among posts 200000-200008 that most others don't see on the list. I'm pretty sure these increase the counter as well.

I ended up with b0rsuk's post in Erik's MMORPG thread myself but this is also wrong if there was a single post on a board I don't have access to at about that time.

Oh yeah, I was just counting posts that I could see. You could do it by looking at post ids and assuming no posts were deleted. (which would probably have been true at 8)

I am going to go and maybe delete some posts now.
