I am making a hold called Sammy Smitemaster and a can't think of a theme, so i want to get some ideas from everyone on what they like as a theme for a hold or anything like that

The theme dosen't matter. Just present your work in a good way and have some good puzzles in your hold and you're sure to do a great job with your hold. Common themes are:

Cleaning a dungeon (the most common theme)
Rescuing someone from a dungeon (usually halph)
Discovering something special in dungeons
Roaming around in a free world discovering things

The best way to make a hold is to concentrate on it and not be making lots of others at the same time. Quality, not Quantity!

One thing that really helps is surface polish. Little things, like making sure that any text you have in it (speaking parts) is spelt correctly, with punctuation and capital letters.

Make the rooms look nice with the odd statue instead of a rock. If there's large walls, perhaps break them up with a chamber inside you can't reach, just to make it look nice.

But above all else, make the puzzles interesting and engaging.

Just a note on this... don't worry if English is not your first language. The HAs (who check your hold before submission) will gladly help you fix any spelling/grammatical errors.

Another way of finding out what sort of holds people like is finding out what sort they hate and not making them like that

e.g. on an obvious note, people dislike repetitive holds and those that just involve killing vast hordes of monster without challenges.

People also hate really hard orb puzzles

My first couple of holds have been killing vast hordes of monsters and everybody hated them

I love puzzles. If it's small or not, I'll enjoy it.

Right. I interpreted Briareos' post as suggesting that people will create rooms in total darkness, others will complain. Then, someone will suggest hotkeys for toggling Alpha blending and Environmental effects so the player won't have to go back to the menu, uncheck the check boxes and continue playing every time they come across a room that is too dark. (Not to mention re-checking them when they come across a not-too-dark room).

In that case, count me in I don't really mind orb puzzles unless they're vast as optimising the moves across a grid of potentially different order orb hits can be very interesting...

I just dislike ones which require hit and miss, or years of heuristic analysis.
