Here are some possible modifications/variations:
1. A single beam of laser light is blocked by anything solid (monsters, beethro, tar, walls etc).
2. Any square which is exposed to two or more beams of laser light is a kill zone (ie, a 1 square monster standing on that square is killed, a rattlesnake tail is shortened, tar is cut, beethro dies, crumbly walls are removed). This happens one square per turn (ie first calculate which squares have 2 or more beams of light on them. These become kill zones. Their contents are removed and the light passes through on the NEXT turn).
3. Rather than toggling mirrors, perhaps they could be rotated 45 degrees at a time by orbs, and have a reflective front and a non-reflective back
