This thread is intended to conveniently capture all the various high-score bugs which have been cropping up, and discussed in various threads. So whether it be a demo which won't upload, or local demos disappearing, please post here. The aim is to help Schik and mrimer have a central point to refer to when addressing these issues. Posts will be deleted as they get fixed (much like the server bugs thread). Please try and give as much information as possible, and if the issue is similar for 2 given highscores, please edit the original post, as opposed to creating a new one.

Also, if the formatting could be kept consistent, that would be greatly appreciated. I've provided a form to this effect which you can reuse (quote reply) though I don't doubt it will evolve depending on the types of bugs raised.

Also, before posting here, please ensure you've performed a "full demo upload". To do this, close down DROD, locate the drod.ini file in your DROD directory ("data" sub-directory), and change "FullScoreUpload=0" to "FullScoreUpload=1".

Now re-open DROD, and click on "Change Settings" -> "Upload My Scores". Depending on how many rooms you've played, this might be a good time to have a cup of coffee/tea Please bear in mind that this process triggers a "checking" phase on the server which can take several hours to perform. To view the current checking status, log on to the site, and click on "My Scores". At the bottom of that page you'll see how many demos are still unverified. Once this hits 0, hopefully your issue will be resolved... if not, this is the thread to post

There is also a known bug which sometimes shows your demos as being 0 moves. If this is the case, please click on the spider icon next to the high-score on the website. This will enforce a check of that demo, and should resolve the issue. Please bear in mind that the checking may take a while. Please refer above if you want to find out how to track the "checking" process...

Finally, please help keep the Eighth tidy by using this thread solely for bug reports. Discussing them should be done elsewhere.

Ok, so I've been playing a fair bit off-line recently. I finished Beethro's Teacher and afterwards went back and improved a number of rooms. However, just this evening when I uploaded my scores (both a normal and a full), it appears as though only the demo from the first time I played the room has gone up.

For example, Beethro's Teacher L2:4S1W. My score on CNet is currently 2415, but I have a more recent score of 9xx that I did a few days ago.

I can play while connected and just-played demos upload correctly.

Note that, even after full-score upload, the aforelinked problem still exists; as does the one in http://forum.caravelgames.com/viewtopic.php?TopicID=10526#110276, which I think is the same problem.

Not precisely a HS bug, but you can't sort by average points under the "Holds" tab. I've tried and failed in JtRH, KDD2.0, and Palace of Puzzles, so it's not isolated.

I've tried several times to get Blast Castle: T h e C e l e b r a t i o n: Entrance to take a demo, but for some reason, it keeps accepting them, then a little while later the spider apparently says 'no sorry' and tosses them back out. :X

EDIT: I just *watched* the spider toss out a 1329-move demo. >_<

RE-EDIT: OK... I have finished this room *four* times today, so I have five victory demos for it saved locally. Granted none of them are anything special; any one of them is the lowest score for the room, *but*... I've beaten this room five times. *One* of the demos should've caught by now.

This was mentioned before, here. Looks like it still hasn't been fixed. The way around it is to restore to a point where the room is unexplored, then complete it without 'r'estoring or undoing. (I actually think undoing is ok, but rather make sure.)

I had some score upload problems recently.

I downloaded Beethro's Generic Quest manually when it had not yet been rated, and because of this, no scores could yet be uploaded. Before the first rating, I conquered about 10 rooms (for example, Entrance, 1W, 1S and 1E in "The Quest Begins") before I started to see regular score messages. This is also when my later scores started to appear on the site.

So, I tried to get those early scores uploaded by using the "Upload my scores" button in Settings. It didn't work. I had hundreds of unverified demos, but after they were all done, I still had none of the missing scores in the hold. Now, I've not tried a full upload yet, but I really shouldn't need to use it for a handful of demos that aren't willing to show up.

For the record, the behaviour seems very similar to my old problems with KDD2.0. I played most of the hold offline, and only a full score upload was able to make them appear... To put it simply, the demos seem to get marked as 'uploaded' if I conquer them without connection to CaravelNet.

I have experienced this: demos are marked as uploaded, if you have marked "Connect to CaravelNet", regardless if they are actually sent to/received by CaravelNet. This covers internet connection problems, server breaks and non-CaravelNet holds.

So, I think that you have to actually disconnect from CaravelNet to prevent to mark demos as uploaded.

Wow... would that mean that if all holds were flagged as "updated" (despite no changes), and all demos were re-verified, all missing HSs would be restored? I know I'm missing a fair few...

There's obviously some problem occurring, but the 2.0.14 game code shouldn't work the way you described. During play, victory demos for non-CaravelNet holds are never marked as uploaded. Demos for CaravelNet holds are only marked as uploaded if the game receives a ranking response from the server, indicating the demo was successfully received. There may be a server-side problem with Upload My Scores. It's being looked into.

I agree about the .ini change not really making a difference. I've yet to have a single extra demo uploaded afetr setting it, yet I'm missing several - possibly as many as a 100. I just thought that if all holds were marked as updated, server-side, and all demos were uploaded via .ini, that could fix everything. Would take a while to verify, but hey... let's see what mrimer finds out first.

Okay, I can at least see a symptom of a problem happening on some batch uploads. I've added some debugging in so that when this problem occurs, it will save the data sent to the server as-is. From that, I can determine if it's a game or site problem and either Mike or I will then fix it.

Well, I found the bug. The only problem is that I'm worried that fixing it will break a lot of other things. I'm going to have to do a fair amount of code review before I'm ready to make any changes. I'll let you know when I know more...

I went through the code with a fine-toothed comb and I'm quite sure a big bug was fixed, and at least pretty confident I didn't horribly break everything else.

If you believe you're missing scores even after a full upload, please try another upload. If you don't think you're missing scores but want to do an upload anyways, maybe wait a day or so - the spider's going to be very busy processing tons of demos.
