This is the correct approach.

A problem is that even a dumb guard uses flexible beeline movement and will step around where you want him to stand.

Like clockwork, I got it immediately afterward without help. All I had to do was ponder on what the centerpiece meant. I was incorrect about a couple of my assumptions.

Basically, you want everything set up so it all comes together at the same time - you've obviously got the guard trapped already so you want the following positions for Beethro and the gel babies:

This has been so far the hardest room in the hold for me, I've been stuck in this room for hours and it's the only room in the entire hold where I felt the need to look for hints (and it still took quite a bit to fully understand what's happening).

In the end I managed to conquer it, but I still want to leave two hints that I think would've helped me comprehend this room sooner (though, knowing these would trivialize the room):

These are probably AI shenanigans that aren't immediately obvious (or at least, that I haven't noticed before), so it took a perplexing amount of time to figure out the order of events.

Anyway, all that aside, been quite enjoying this hold so far, got one more room to conquer to finally see what's on the other side of the master wall
