Wow! We've had three requests given the thumbs-up in quick succession! While we're on this roll, and related to the current ortho tile visibility issue, it would be useful if I could press a key to hide monsters, Beethro, mimics etc. to see what's underneath them. Something that often happens is that I can't tell which way an arrow is pointing because I'm standing on it, or there's a monster or mimic on it.

So, request: Press some key to hide the monster layer. Press it again (or any other key) to display it again.

I agree with this. It also fits with the DROD mantra of not hiding anything from the player... literally.

Could it make everything partialy transparant instead as to not get too muddled up as to what is where?

I think it would be less confusing and overall more intuitive if the key needed to be held to hide the layer (i.e. it is displayed again when the key is released).

I like this idea.
It wouldn't make transparent tar unnecessary, though.

That's because transparent tar is already unnecessary. Perhaps you meant "redundant" or "wouldn't replace the usefulness of transparent tar". :P
(If the architect is enough of a jerk with tar on walls or trapdoors, I'll stop playing. And I solved the infamous Metroid Echoes Pit II today with my good old opaque tar.)

Oh, I almost forgot to say why I like this idea: this room.

But some good puzzles can be made with things under tar, which are only annoying with opaque tar. (And that's all I'm saying on the matter, because it's off-topic and has been rehashed before.)
