to be totally honest, i could never get myself into RPG's for better or for worse. I mean it, i tried FFX, KoToR II & I, FF4, Runescape and a few others that i can't remember, and i either got fustrated at the fighting system, or got bored of the game. I'm really gald that they were all friend's copies.

Its kinda funny actually, seening that my favorate game is a RPG/FPS hybrd. I guess i just prefer chunky bits to victory dances.

I like Avernum 4 a lot. I just have the demo, but it's fun. Also I like Geneforge I II and III.

Anyone played them?

On-topic, I played WoW from late beta on. Most of my guild from EverQuest came over and made an Alliance guild. I decided that I liked the Horde better so I founded our "sister" guild on that side. Once I got my Orc Hunter up to level 60 I started playing a Gnome Mage who is level 45 or so right now. I got to level 60 with my Orc relatively fast, but it's a lot more boring the second time around. I quit early this year, but when I got my new job and moved across the country I started up again since I figured I could afford it. And I did play once a week or so but now it's been a few weeks since I last played. Just too many other things to play that offer better satisfaction for my time.

I am looking forward to the expansion though, mostly because I miss my Hunter and I will be glad to have a reason to play him again. I don't know if I will start a character in one of the new races except to check out the starting areas, but I could do that with my other characters so it's not really required.

Used to have an Undead Warlock, level 40 or so. Had to stop playing (it was a shared account anyway) because I realized that my computer specs are not up to the task. Whenever there were 7 or more players nearby, the game would totally freeze until they went away. I could beat people up to 10 levels higher in one-on-one combat, but on higher levels it's all about groups. And you can't do raids if the mere presence of enemy lags you to death.

I used to play. I PVP'd heavily. I got bored at 56, because BRD was boring me--and if you are bored of group play in BRD, you're not going to like six months of Molten Core.

I sort of play on and off, but don't really get sucked in.

It helps that I tend to look over the game with the sort of critical eye Old Man Murray was famous for. It's broken in so many ways, but it's fun for a bit of mindless hitting of things and the lore is pretty good.

Personally I did not like Guild Wars, but there were several reasons for that which mostly have to do with my online gaming play style. However, if you do want to try an online RPG out without a monthly fee, Guild Wars does work. Of course, all MMORPGs have a 1 month free trial anyway, so usually you know within that time whether or not you want to keep spending money on it.

I'm firmly an explorer/socialiser, and only venture in PvP when I'm in the mood. Most of the time I prefer the fight to be even, and in games where that's not the case I get frustrated, even when I'm the ganker.

I find it hilarious how many MMOs are being made where PvP is the primary focus. Guys, did you not read the twenty-year old theory on MMO design that says that not everyone wants to PvP, or are you just making the game you want again?
