I have a request I posted in the 12-rank-point thread I wanted to highlight and expand here, in case someone eventually cares. (I am actually anal-retentive enough to notice these things, but the Adderall is probably also to blame.)

A topic (thread) that doesn't exist looks like this: an old version of the site, missing graphics and having bad links, and quite possibly a bad login script.

A board that doesn't exist looks like this, with missing graphics and no login option at all, but at least the links here are good.

Fortunately, an attachment that doesn't exist actually seems to work properly.

A regular 404 looks like this, with no graphics or anything at all to tell you where you are.

I'm certain there are other cases (maybe map.php? but I don't have all the php names so I can't try each one), and those may also have different behavior. So here are the requests:

1) 404's (by which I don't really mean 404, but error redirect pages in general) should not have broken links, missing graphics, and scripts you can run whose results are questionable.

2) 404's should be pretty, should look like Caravel Forum, and should link back to Caravel Forum. By "pretty" I mean maybe a picture of Beethro stabbing Halph, with, "Hey! I 404'd!" or something.

3) It would be nice if a topic, board, post, or something like that, which went poof because it was recently deleted, retained the name of the topic/board/post/etc. and told you what it was on the 404 page. Like, "The board: Bad Evil Restaurant II: Electric Boogaloo has been deleted for inactivity", or "The topic: Why Won't You Give Me A Billion Rank Points has been deleted.", versus, "This is not a valid Topic ID, and never was as far as we can tell."

That last point is not an issue when the thing you're working with was never there to begin with, nor is it a problem for attachments since you should be able to remember what you just tried to click on.

I think they use that on the 403 Forbidden errors.

All the old images are in the site's image folder still, oddly:

404, 403, and 401.
