I think the time has come to finally and publicly say what is The Other Big Project. Most of those who have solved the riddle of the other bar have, more or less, guessed what it is...

Ladies and Gentleman, Serpents, Evil Eyes, Brains and other inhabitants of The Eighth. The Other Big Project is a port of DROD engine to the realm of Flash, generally known as Flash DROD or FDROD.

Here are some screenshots!

Amongst testers we usually call it KDDL, because the first holds to be released will be King Dugan's Dunegon Lite. The game will include some of the fancy stuff from TCB and some CNet capabilities. The currently standing 97.2% might sound a bit too optimistic, but the truth is, right now, the game is at the state where it *COULD* be released, but shouldn't (I'd say TT faced similar fate). It's fully playable but there are still bugs and problems to take care of.

I have originally planned to release it before GatEB, but due to some circumstances in my life I had to push the date a bit - no official point in spacetime continuum yet folks .

This is great, skell! I had already guessed it from the riddle of the bar and other hints here and there.
I hope this helps make DROD more known and brings more people to the community

But don't rush the release! People are nagged by buggy flash games online and they can close the browser with a single click and never want to play them again.

Are there any plans for hosting it in some big flash-game site (e.g., Newgrounds?) or where will it be hosted?

Since it's all the rage nowadays and that last screenshot gloats about killing everything without the queen spawning - are there going to be achievements?

Yes indeed! The game will surely reach Newgrounds and Kongregate, my own games portal and, hopefully, all other sites which decide to host the game. It will also be playable on the caravelgames website*.

Actually, skell doesn't know, when it comes to Kongregate. The way it works over there is that the game exposes statistics, and the website's staff adds achievements based on them if they happen to feel like it.

Aw, don't worry. The achievements are all either fun to figure out, easy to get, or something you'd do anyway. At least, in my opinion, and at the time of this writing.

Nice screens, King Dugan Dungeon isn't too hard and i think it will be nice playing it on flash, one question, will it have a level editor?

Probably not. Having two competing room size standards would be a bad idea, and few (if any!) puzzles are possible in the Flash DROD engine but not the standard one. There is of course a private level editor utility our architects use, which may see some limited further private use and distribution if we release level packs beyond KDD.

Besides, what we really want from all this, at least as I understand it, is to bring more people into the existing community.

So are we going to do that by having a splash page popping up every level or 3 asking the player to try out the downloadable versions of the game and to check out our forums?

We should have Danforth (or whatever the TCB salesman guy is named) pop up in them.

Danforth is hilarious though! Popping things up every level would be *actually* slimy, but he should totally show up on a pitch screen accessible from the main menu and shown at the end of the hold.

Hope that, DROD is a great game, and sadly, very unknow, maybe because it's hard to someone that don't know what is.

Nowadays most of games are for childs, short and easy.

Even without editor, if it has the 25 levels of KDD the game will be fun enough to pass one or more days playing it.

On a different note, is it possible to translate the game into another language ? If text is stored in .po files or something similar, I could do it (in French).

I've been wanting to do something like that for the series for some time now, but I can't seem to find a good starting point ; this could be it.
