Don't get me wrong, I really do believe that the sword should hurt the player on its own, but people could reproduce this with "Behavior Attack target in front".
And people can turn it off with "
Imperative Sword safe to player"
, going right back to old behavior if they need it. Not really that difficult.
EDIT: To be fair, 'Sword safe' also protects other enemies from sword hits, but does not protect tarstuff and will also activate orbs. Current "
non-sworded"
monsters wielding swords won't harm tarstuff or orbs. So 'Sword safe' won't give you *everything* the old behavior did. But on the flipside, I don't think anyone will miss it. (And if they do, there's other ways of dealing with it anyways)
