Spies from our rivals?
On this, Caravel forum?
More likely than thought.

Also, they seem to think the poll is over; now is our time to strike!

I've checked over there and it's sad, apparently they are judging our community from Anson's post and a post from someone saying that they didn't enjoy Wonderland, but would buy it for their kid.

Also, Anson used to be a member there and apparently got into some trouble and got banned. Well, what can you do?

In unrelated news, Aveyond 2 is currently just two votes behind us, and they managed to tie a couple hours ago. I'm not sure if second place as opposed to third place matters, but hey.

That was me. They quote me and say "yeah right", which leads me to believe that either:

A - They don't think I actually played the game (which I did, and my opinion they quote is correct).

or:

B - I'm lying about thinking that a kid would enjoy it.

I played the demo too, and I agree, too easy to be interesting. But assuming there are more elements than we saw in the demo, I'm sure a good architect can make some really nasty puzzles. Maybe that's what they were "yeah right"ing about.

I liked Wonderland Adventures, and spent some hours on it before I just decided I needed to put it away and work on something. I think maybe the worst thing about it is also one of its strengths--the 3D graphics. Makes the game really nice to look at, but as the levels become more complex, it's harder to see what is going on.

This made me decide to buy the game and give it a go, and I must admit I'm hooked right now. There are few decent puzzler games out there, and this one is a great distraction from some of the more brain-shattering DROD levels :)

Having said that, I'm surprised how high the difficulty level is actually set in WA. I am obviously trying to optimise each room, but it's not as easy as I thought it might be.

I can well imagine me playing through til the end.

As for the 3D gfx issue that Erik points out, I'd agree. They look great! but it makes the character difficult to manoeuvre and can hide important elements. I'd recommend buying the eye-piece early on as this lets you almost get a topdown view on any nearby location.

Anyways, my heart's utterly with DROD but I can understand why people would vote for WA.

Hi there, Patrick here (from Midnight Synergy).

I just wanted to pop in and say Hi. I've noticed some negative posts on both our forums regarding our respective other forums. I agree with those that have said we should not judge each others' community based on a few members/posts. I admire what Erik has done with DROD and how its community has grown and evolved, and I also think that we have quite an excellent bunch of puzzle game players. As I said in a post on our own community, these competitions are a positive thing to highlight all indie games, and it would be a shame if they generated unfriendly sentiments.

And as I've said as well, I think DROD is an excellent game (I've bought and played JTRH quite a bit, haven't had time to check out TCB). You will find that Wonderland Adventures is a bit easier in the puzzle department, but it does get nice an tricky for its second half (and it's probably the easiest of all the Wonderland games).

Cheers!
Patrick

Thank you for jumping in and cleaning the discussion up a bit. :) I am an active member on both this and the Wonderland forum, and I like both games. I must admit that DROD:TCB gets very hard in the third part, so WA is nice if you need a break. I already finished WA with all stars so I'm patiently waiting for the expansion.

Erik and Patrick both did a great job making those games and I hope to see some more games from both of you in the future. :thumbsup

Though this thread, specifically, is not free from cheaters seeing how it was the cheater who came to gloat.

I believe the differences between the 2 forums have been ironed out and as such, let's just move on...

Unless, of course, that question was one of genuine interest in which case I apologise.

Personally, I am perfectly sure that the Wonderland Adventures community is just as excellent as ours, even if there are a few more.. immature exceptions.
I downloaded the demo myself now, and it's indeed quite a fun game, although not quite my taste. Tile-based puzzle games and 3d hardly mix in my opinion, as seen in both WA and DROD 3D.
Of course it looks somewhat nice, but it obscures too much about the puzzle, at times.

So I can understand and wholeheartedly approve of Wonderland Adventures winning, because it, as a 3D friendly family-based simple puzzle game, has a much larger target than DROD, a 2D evil, difficult puzzle game with a complex, twisting plot.

That said, I wholeheartedly approve that we should just ignore tyteen4a03 and judge their community only after actually visiting it.

Agreed... Interestingly, the optimisation process is very difficult, but I realise I'm one of those obsessed with such things. The actual progression curve is also very steep but that only starts getting obvious after maybe 3 or 4 hours. I wouldn't really call it a family-based *simple* puzzle game for those reasons.

All in all, I think this really is a great addition to my puzzle game selection.

Well, maybe that's because I had just played the demo, which I had through in about 20 minutes.

Yeah, it gets a lot harder in the full version. The demo levels are a sort of tutorial to learn the basics and some objects and monsters. It gets serious when you arrive in Wondertown, which is located just after the demo levels.
