I copied some text from a TXT file, and attempted to paste it into a level entrance description. It doesn't work. It does work with text copied from a scroll, though.
If this isn't a bug, could a mod move it to Feature Requests?

Are you using Notepad to transfer texts? That doesn't work (at least not in 98, which I also use).

I did try to copy text by copying it in my browser first, that somehow seem to work.

It is probably intended, but I found it pretty annoying.
