Sometimes when my internet is slow or my kernel decides that no internet connections means it has to attempt to connect to each address given, I wish there was some easy way to disable internet - say a command-line option. That way I don't need to wait forever just to get to the settings screen to turn it off.

Why isn't the Settings screen option enough?
Instead of waiting you can just press escape to cancel connecting.

No, the problem is that the kernel can take forever resolving the address, so getting a DNS lookup error hangs. The "ESC" dialog doesn't pop up. Also, if you change the settings screen, then you have to remember to reset it when the Internet starts working again. They have a 'nosound' option, so I was just thinking, why not a 'nointernet' option?

I second that. Been having similar issues recently as my ISP has decided connectivity isn't important.
