icon Download my own demos (+1)
Because of various data-losses in the past, I've restarted playing certain holds from the beginning. Occasionally, I reach a room which involves a lot of trial and error and or serpent manipulation and or some other puzzle I don't enjoy, and I know I've solved it in the past, and there is a demo I made in the highscores, but I can't get it because I haven't solved the room in my current DROD installation.

So I'm wondering - could the demo download be changed to always allow me to download my own demos?

Hear hear.

Actually I'd rather the check for 'can you download demos' is
is the room conquered now || does this player/account have a demo for this room on CaravelNet

That would also allow people with scores worse than the top 25 to not redo the boring bits

And the forum doesn't support it - or using number codes.

Great suggestions, Eytan and Rab. Even better, I'll work with Matt to make a change in 2.0.15 that also allows downloading room demos if the player is marked as having solved the room on CaravelNet. This is more inclusive than checking whether they have a victory demo on CaravelNet. Yay! More value to CaravelNet!

Will that make it possible to download demos not in the top 25 (in particular: to download your own if it's not in the top 25)?

I'd say so - which demos get listed (if any) is mainly decided on the server side, so just stuffing your demo in there unconditionally shouldn't be a problem.

The server only stores the top 25 demos.

Are you sure about that? I think I remember Schik once not too long ago saying that demos hadn't been deleted yet...

Yeah, it stores all of them. My worst is 66th place, and that demo is sitting on the server. When JtRH/CaravelNet first came out, we just kept the top 8 for each room, but within a month or so, I changed it to keep all of them.

So yeah, I can make it so that it will always add <User>'s demo when <User> views high scores for a room.

Yeah, I know I'm being nosy and stuff, but - how many demos are there currently? And what space do they take up?

(If I may ask, of course... :))

np: SCSI-9 - Teplyi Dym (The Line Of Nine)

Major kudos for getting this in place. It's been a lifesaver on a few holds where I've had to reconstruct my progress.

But:

This is still unimplemented. Can it be done?

*bump*

I'm currently replaying KDD and JtRH to improve my overall average and since my Mac went *phlpht* last fall I don't have my original player files anymore. There are rooms I'd rather not re-work from scratch if I can avoid it. Any progress on this?

*re-bump*

The recent FR on a "demo bank" reminded me of this. I wouldn't bump if Schik's post above didn't imply it'd be relatively easy to do.

So, I was looking at some CaravelNet stuff and saw this thread. And now when you view scores for a room in-game, it will add your own score to the list, even if it's not in the Top N.

Oh, you rock! Of course, it's not working for me--I still can't see my demos in-game--but that's because I need to renew my Caravel membership, so I'm not sure it counts as a "bug". Thanks Schik!

I can confirm it works where there are relevant demos to speak of, but there's now a display bug in cases where a room has a 1-move solution (attached). I can't download the phantom demo or anything, it's just there in the list.

Nice! I feel like I just got a Christmas present from Santa Schik. Thanks! This will come in very handy.

I knew something was wrong when it seemed to work just fine on the very first try.

Fixed!
