When beethro step on rotating floor, he rotate of 90 or -90! It has puzzle potential!

If this were implemented at all, I'd like to have it stick with the traditional 45 degrees. Also, it should rotate monsters, specifically guards.

However, while it does add a new set of methods for killing monsters (and new ways for Beethro to be killed by them), this violates the "one move per turn" rule that is close to set in stone.

Some questions that arise are: Does Beethro kill two monsters, if the orientation is right? How can a rotating square be reasonably displayed? What if a serpent moves on it? What layer would it belong to? And, does it really add the sort of puzzle potential DRODders want?

Personally, I don't like the idea, because it violates the 1 move per turn. That's one of the big things DROD is about, the others being logical deductions and "Guy with big sword kills stuff". I generally frown upon speed boosts (or hindrances), randomness, and alternate weapons.

Also, you could just make it so you cant swing on it, but you can move off it.

Well, if the objects and walls rotated it could be good.
It wouldn't affect monsters, unless they were in the way of a wall. examples:

WWX > WXW
XWX > WWW
WWX > XXX

WWX > XWW
WRX > WXW
XWX > RXX
B > B

XXX > XXX
XRW > XRX
XXX > XWX
 B > B

1: Everything rotates 90 degrees (I don't know if it could work with 45 degrees)
2: Everthing rotates. Roach is not affected.
3: Everything rotates, with roach being blocked so it doesn't move twice.
How about that?

I dunno, I like the idea so something that turns your sword, but I agree with Zex that it shouldn't violate the 1 move per turn rule.

I totally thought that vittro was asking for a 1-square large rotating square. I like this rotating 3 by 3 even less. It actually moves a monster, which can allow for faster Beethro access, or just unintuitive motion.

That is, I don't like it if it's all the time. If Beethro can control when the 3X3 square rotates, then it may make some interesting puzzles, mostly involving mazes and destruction order (kill the tar? Or the queens?) Larger squares may add more confusion--maybe relegate it to odd sided squares.

The only problem with those ideas, is that monsters may move many more than 2 times per turn. Even on the 3X3, a roach may transfer from a NW corner to a NE corner, moving 2 squares per turn. I may approve more if the control was remote...but I don't even really like my idea that much more than the 3X3 rotations.

Ramble over.

Whereas I haven't finished Beethro's Teacher yet, and I feel no such compunctions.

On a completely unrelated note, Aeris dies.

Seriously...I thought Beethro's Teacher might have something, due to an early room in the hold with Denfry, but I haven't seen anything of the sort. Heck, I haven't finished most of the Smitemaster's Selections. I've been concentrating on building up where I was on other holds from when my laptop wiped.

Either way, monsters would move more than once per turn, and that's bad too.

Wait... Why odd sided?
Couldn't even sided work as well? It just needs to be square.

It could work, but I think there's more puzzle potential with a square which remains constant for some part of the move sequence.
