Okay, I got around the trapdoors, and I closed all the doors with no tar behind them. Now what? I can't quite see how to get rid of everything.

Ah, interesting. I see Briareos' demo contains a clever trick. But FWIW, you don't absolutely need to be that clever if you just want to defeat the room.
