DROD does - press F6 in the room you're stuck in, then select Import.

Or, in TCB, you could just click on the file, change the open file to Drod TCB (or applicable name of your choice), and when you select open, and you have the file opener be TCB, you should be able to download it automatically. Go to the room you are having trouble in, and press F6, the demo should be in there.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't realise that worked now :)

What? DROD can now handle file associations? Why isn't this configured by the installer?

Probably other things use that extension. But a note about this feature in the manual would've been nice.

So? If other things use that extension, then simply have the installer ASK! It's a nifty feature, anyway.

Hmm...I don't know how to make our installer (InnoSetup) ask to associate file extensions. If anyone knows, please tell me and we could put it in.

If it can do registry writes it's pretty simple to make an association. Attached is a registry export for an association to open a demo file.

Edit: Oh, and anyone who wants to associate .demo files with DROD can download and run this file to do it.

That's useful, but I think what Mike is asking is how to make InnoSetup ask the user about making the extension association instead of just doing it.

That still only says how to set an ini file to tell the installer to associate the extensions - it doesn't deal with how to get the installer to give the user the choice, which is the problematic bit.

What would be great too (in a somewhat associated manner), is that if DROD is open, double clicking a .hold file imports it directly into DROD as opposed to just bringing DROD to the foreground.

Excellent! I'll try it out. I think one or more checkboxes (also for .player and .hold files) would be cleaner than pop-ups, so I'll try that.

I've tried this out and it kind of works -- you can see a .demo file is called a "DROD Demo File" and it's got the proper icon with it, but double-clicking the .demo file doesn't actually know to run DROD. I did include the [Setup] section directive "ChangesAssociations=yes", and that seems to work properly.

Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing. Ideas?

Never mind the above post. I figured it out -- I needed "shell\open\command" instead of just "open\command" on the last registry key, it seems. Now the open association is set.

Last issue: I can't figure out how to place some checkboxes on an install page to give the default option to associate .demo, .player, and .hold files to DROD. I can do that with the "[Run]" options, like launching DROD at the end, but I don't know how to run my own [Code] sections via checkbox. Do you know how to do that?

Nope, but I'll have time to figure it out this weekend. :)

You can do it by writing registry keys, I believe.

Another option would be to put an "Associate DROD files with DROD" button in the setup in the game. That might be easier and allow people to make the change after installing and getting addicted.
