Absolutely awesome game.

I completed it myself (with a few hints), but just took a look at the latest 'full walkthrough' posted on the other forum. The amount of content in this game is incredible, and extremely clever.

Even the way a huge number of wrong combinations of objects gives you a hilarious message is great.

Bah, who needs King's Quest.

Make another one. Please.

TripleM when you say other forum which one do you mean? I would love to see a full walkthrough because I can't seem to figure out how to get the hair from the door frame and I am stuck on how to get the giant treasure...seems I missed the rainbow.

The unofficial walkthrough: http://angrymanga.com/dump/atotk_walkthrough.html

Having 20 saved games (as well as not doing patches other than re-releasing the full executable, and saved games not working after an upgrade) is pretty much the AGS default. I'll look into the savegames some more, though. I suppose it depends on your playstyle how many saved games you need, although the autosave should help.

There is a lot of media that claims to be "epic," but A Tale of Two Kingdoms is truly worthy of the title "an epic fairy tale."

I'm no master of the universe to declare such worthiness; this is just my humble opinion. -- but, wow. This game blew me away... the artwork, the music, the fantastic storyline! At times, I felt like I was actually watching a blockbuster film. This land of dreams has a special place in my heart.

Thank you, Crystal Shard. What a fantastic legacy you have built!

Thank you, to everyone who worked on this game. It is awesome!

I've played a number of AGS games that I liked, but few that compared to the quality I remember from old commercial titles like Quest for Glory. And ATOTK is, I think, the first that actually surpassed them. The writing is well done, the plot very coherent (moreso than a lot of other games). And the wonderful music and graphics support it all very well.

I hadn't followed this game much while it was in development and loaded it up not really knowing what to expect. However, my expectations were raised right from the introduction and initial chapter, and they were not disappointed. :)

The link in the download page:

points to itself...where is it located?

Thanks!

I really loved this game, I thought the setting and the story were really good and loved the way they drew on Celtic mythology. The characters were likeable, the graphics were great, especially for a freeware game, and it was a long engrossing experience to boot. One thing I really liked was the variety of ways to solve problems and the varying effects that it would have on your score. It made for more thoughtful and less linear gameplay than can be expected from most games of this type. That said I do agree that some of the puzzle solutions were a little obscure, though score wise this was perhaps deliberate game design. Anyway, I would have thought this a great game if I had paid for it in the heady days when Sierra was still Sierra and when Lucasarts didn't just make Star Wars knock offs. Kudos to all the team, well done. Well done indeed.

I did discover one bug:
*Possible spoiler*

After Branwyn goes to the monastery in chapter 5, I found that if I went to the camp while she wasn't there, after I walked past Taliesyn, about the point Branwyn would put away her sword, the game froze and couldnt be recovered. If I went to the Monastery and saw her leave, then went to the camp, the error was resolved. Minor but it might need looking at. *Note this is after I had defeated the goblin occupation of the village*

*End Spoiler*

Now available: update v1.2

This fixes (to my knowledge) every bug and issue reported in these threads, in particular teleporting from your bedroom to Thierna na Oge, being unable to pick up the pigeon in one room, and being unable to cross the bridge in rabbit form. I wish to thank everybody for their feedback.

Download full game

I just would like to sincery thank for great job Crystal Shard has done! By using these words : ;)

Wo-wo-wo-wo-wonderful time I've spent! Meaning Tale of Two Kingdoms, of course... absolutely amazing! This game must've been made by genius...and only for genius too, I got this feeling few times. :D However, with long time of guessing correct solutions and little help of walkthrough I was able to finally get to the quite succesful end. I will try to play it again to solve and find things I missed. You know, I've never seen an adveture game where I could feel so free... for example 5 posiible endings are simply unbelieveble! You recalled me old times with Quest for Glory.... Nevermind, I'm writing tooooo much again. :)

I just hope, that You will be still eager to create and I wish You good luck in any future work, dear Crystal Shard team. :thumbsup

Hello

I am new here and am in need of help. I've been trying to take the goblin shield back to Havgan with me in chapter 4, but everytime I try to leave I get caught and it gets taken away from me. If I try to leave by the dock the blacksmith catches me, and if I try to leave by annoying the jeweler, the guards take away the shield. What am I missing? Please help. Thanks.

Yes I just figured that out, but thanks Noah! (It wasn't in the walkthrough.) I'm glad this game is logical, some of the puzzles in King's Quest weren't so sensical.

Think King's Quest, point + click, or what I call 'an RPG without monsters'.

Both, actually. Classic mechanics include the "walk / look / touch / speak" GUI; newer mechanics include the self-walking NPCs as well as the ability to order people around.

No other graphical adventure that I know of allows you to "ask the monk to read that book for me".

In the original kings quest, specific typing commands were used to interact with the enviorment. How is this diferent? :)

In the VGA games of King's Quest (i.e. #5 and up), you used a mouse cursor instead.

Also, the text parser of Sierra games (and in particular King's Quest) was never all that good. While any Zork'ish game would allow you to "take all books except the green, then burn it", the KQ parser is pretty much limited to simple "<verb> <noun>" sentences. I've played nearly every Sierra game in existence, and none of them allow you to order NPCs around.

But well, why not form your own opinion? After all, the game is free, so you'll definitely get your money's worth.
