icon Enchanted Figurines (0)
The figurines themselves would look like monsters they represents, except they couldn't move. They would have one single color, gray or sth to separate them from living monsters.

Should Tar Mother statchoo be 2-squared ? (smashing left eye would kill all left eyes, right - all right tar eyes...)
How about serpents ?

They would behave like crumbly walls.

So there would be as many figurines as monster kinds + 1.
=======================================

When smashed with sword, all monsters represented by it instantly DIE.

There would be a special figurine, too, which would annihilate all monsters in the room.
----------------
Purposes:

1. Architects' tool. Sometimes the room is actually beaten after you reach certain place on map. Yet there may remain dozens of roaches, and lots of tedium before you can leave the room. Figurines would reduce tedium. You may say smart architect can prevent that... but mechanisms locking roach queens and suchlike do take place, and can't be put everywhere.

2. Beethro may be forced to either kill wraithwings, or all goblins and etc. In this case it's not just a tool, but yet another decision to make.

3. In case of "regenerating" monsters like roaches or tar babies, figurines would be an addictive cure. You may have to save them until the time is right.

4. Spiders would potentially have a purpose in non-Palace styled rooms.
----------------
Variation: yellow figurines would kill only monsters which face the same direction as the figurine.

I think this could be quite good for eliminating monsters quickly. Maybe if a figurine is in the room, monsters of that type can only be killed by killing it, and not conventionally?

I think the 'yellow figurine' idea has a LOT of puzzle potential - why not let Beethro push the figurine around? Think levels 9 and 16 but a nastier... :devil

Yeah, good idea - pushing figurines around would be cool ! (You'd have to bump into it with sword facing some other way, I presume). At least yellow ones. There should be pretty easy way to prevent them from being moved. Let's say they would trigger trapdoors and be stuck at force arrows...

And I don't want DROD become another Sokoban clone. Many architects would feel temptation, for sure.

How about a figurine figurine, that destroyed all figurines when it was shattered?

...

I dunno, could have a use.

Would there be much point? Why not just kill all of them seperately?

suggest figurines cycle through all available monster types, 1 per move. thus you have to time the destruction correctly for it to have the desired effect, and also makes possible choices such as suggest above (goblins or wraiths) with a single object.

This would make it impossible to add new monsters in future versions without seriously breaking puzzles. I infer from this that it will never happen.

I think the necromancy was because it was mentioned in the Orb of Genocide thread.

I don't think that it's worth necroing a thread just to say that this idea isn't likely to happen, 3 or so years later.

I opened this link from the Orb of Genocide thread, then forgot that was how I got there. I haven't been here for a few days so for all I knew it was recent. Sorry.

Don't apologise... you had a point. Glad it's all sorted now though :) Though I must admit I was puzzled by the whole thing myself.

Nothing to see here. Move along. ;)

i have a major problem with this idea, namely what to do about monsters that can be spawned, like roaches and tar babies, what would happen once their statue has been broken and another 30 turns elapses?

no sir, i don't like it

No, that would make great puzzle potential. If you can kill every roach in the room exactly once, it may be useful to use it early, or hold it off until you're surrounded. So it adds to the strategy.

(as opposed to those roaches you have to kill twice)

A golem revivifier? I don't think that's been suggested, but it could be neat.

I think I would call it a rock opera-tor (hyphen included for mild attempt at punnery.)

...still confused. I'm thinking that the "That" from Someone else is referring to my golem revivifier, which I'm sure has been asked for, but is not suggested (other than by me) in this thread.
