Lionel Richie singing "Hello" live on "Wetten, Dass...?" yesterday - on Helium :lmao

I saw it live, but it was bound to show up on YouTube... :D

If you're wondering how it came to this - the show is about making the guests bet whether a contestant succeeds in doing something out of the ordinary. In Lionel's case, it was one man trying to throw 25 out of 50 poker cards into a basketball net - which he narrowly failed, and since Lionel had bet that he would succeed, he had to do something in return... :lol

I watched this the other day, and my word, it was SOO funny!

If you want to see other clips, be sure you're 18, this one doesn't have any swearing in it, but others might.

On that note, these guys don't do the Dead Parrot sketch nearly as well as the Monty Python crew, but the story behind why they're doing it is almost as good!

Sugest? You said "If you want to see other clips, be sure you're 18". That sounds more like a comand than a sugestion.

Warning: I write a swear word within this secret tag, so if you happen to be ultra sensetive, please don't read it.

http://media-convert.com/convert/index.php

This is a site that will convert a file format to another file format. Not just the obvious MP3s to OGGs and vice-versa, but nearly 50 formats. For free. With no sign-up. No catches of any kind.

Doesn't do M4As, though, but then that's sort of a given.

WAV. This isn't that helpful, because WAVs are, I believe, uncompressed.

OGG's a 'lossy' format, which means that it's not an exact replica of the source. If you convert it to MP3, say, because your iPod won't play it, bloody Apple, you'll lose some information. This isn't too bad if you figured you had the space to rip songs with a 512 bitrate, but you have to remember that you lose some information every time you go from one lossy format to another, such as from MP3 to OGG and vice-versa.

And from CD to OGG, and from OGG to CD, and from CD to MP3, etc.

But Free Lossless Audio Codec is, surprisingly, lossless. It isn't widely supported, though.

There's a simple way to measure exactly how much of your sound file are you "losing" when you convert it. To figure out, do this:

1. Open the original file in your favorite sound editor (I do this in Audacity).
2. Invert the sound track.
3. Open the converted version of the original sound file as an additional sound track.
4. Add the tracks together ("quick mix" in Audacity).

The resulting sound file is the difference between the two. How much you can hear this difference when you play it is what effect the file conversion had.

I did this to find out the difference between an original wav file and ogg at different levels of quality. I noticed that dropping an ogg file from quality 10 all the way down to 0 doesn't really have as much audible loss as I expected it would.

(The ramifications of this for DROD are: JtRH, KDD2 and The Choice have voiceovers recorded at ogg 5-quality. Since this test, however, I save all edited voice files at 0-quality. We now have Smitemaster's Selection .hold files at half the size with ~99% quality retention! Maybe one day I'll go through those holds and redo all the audio files to shrink their download sizes by half.)

Careful there - if the audio got delayed a bit during en- or decoding you'll have to make sure both waveforms are exactly lined up first, or you'll get wrong results... (zooming in a bit, finding a sharp peak in both waveforms and making sure they're vertically aligned should do it)
